Relegation Fight 2014/2015

any other club would have sacked martinez in that situation and if he didn't do so well last season we would have done so to. This season has been a mirror image of wigan by all accounts which considering what that means to a club like ourselves it's not terrible to not want the same.

i wish. Would love a day out at wembley.

We've got 7 games to go. And we're 12 points clear.

We were never in a relegation fight, because being in a relegation fight means you have to go into the last 2 months in danger.

You just panicked and shot your load too early.

I know I'm the go to poster here in recent weeks to try and popcorn so I watch my words carefully.

read my last response to chico. He quoted me out of context and therefore unless he can find me saying I wanted him sacked for us losing games as a knee her response then all this is to try and find a target to vault and try to gloat at the season starting 3 weeks ago in most people's minds now.

For what it's worth, I don't think we've been in a relegation fight at any point during the season. That would imply dropping in and out of the relegation places every other week, when in reality the closest we've been after the weekends full round of fixtures has been played is 6 points in 14th place (I think). Yes it's a little close for comfort and unacceptable. But we've turned it around and are 12 points clear with 7 games to go.

I don't want Martinez sacked and I haven't at any point in the season. That doesn't mean I'm pleased with our league season or think it's acceptable.

Ashtonian stop waving and except a lifeline when it's thrown fella, you're drowning in your own nonsense and myself and a few others are offering help.

Accept it and admit you've been scaremongering for months with no just cause and people will think better of you.

Going down with the sh1t did the captain of the titanic no favours fella and its the same here..

ill admit I was wrong when martinez shows signs of learning from this season and at least doesn't have us struggling next year.

But until then ill be happy we won and wait and see over the next 8 months how we get on.

I was nowhere near the site until I was vaulted so not like I'm coming on to spread pessimism

where has anyone said it hasn't been dreadful? just because people (myself included) said we won't be relegated doesn't mean we were happy with how the season has gone on. the extremism on this forum is ridiculous, apparently either martinez is a clown and we're going down or you must think he's a god on earth when it's obviously some where in between. It's not as awful as everyone made out with their over the top doomsday predictions but it's not all rosy either. I just take one game at a time and don't look to far ahead

Excellent post.

The reasonable view. We need more of this as its what keep the forum sound.

Unfortunately adversity brings out the worse in the Kipper.

Let this be a lesson.

Come on man just before the newcastle game people were trying to tell you it only take a couple of wins to turn it around and you said and I quote

"I was saying we were in relegation form since december time, and we have won one game in all of that time! Its like the barry thing all over again, i didnt want him to sign, everyone says im wrong then over time more and more people come to the same conclusion. nothing to celebrate but simply i stand by what i think.

but, and i cant stress this enough, i am a 'doom merchant' as you say because we arent winning games. people who are optimistic are saying 'beat newcastle and we will be fine', 'get 10 points and we are fine', '3 wins and we are fine' etc. Except we arent winning games, and still continue to lose games through the same reasons, same tactics and lack of change. Its not doom mongering to believe we can actually fall into worst case scenario because we have spent most of the season so far doing so.

As i have said before, if the teams below us had turned two draws into wins since august, with no impact on our games at all then the conversation right now would be far different, ifs and buts but 6 points clear is not a safe margin on the basis of you assume the teams below us cannot over take us.
"

You were positive that the turn around that we all saw was coming wasn't going to come, it did.

I didn't realise there was a way of being vaulted away from the site?

But to be honest judging by your history of being right I won't believe it until someone else confirms it...

Second Season Syndrome. Anyone with any sense could see it.

Last season was supposed to be this season and vice versa. His system and style, we weren't supposed to get it until this season.

This has been a transition and a write off. There have been glimpses of where we can go here but we have to support the man in the summer, the fans and sigh, the board.

We definitely were in a relegation fight.

Consider if we'd have got what we deserved on the run of play against Southampton and QPR - we'd be three points above the drop in disastrous form with seven games to go, with a side below us on a run of two wins in three.

Football is a game of "ifs" though - luckily, we've scraped three wins out of the bag, and after the QPR result we were all but safe, but we were right in the mix prior to three wins.

Regardless, it's been a horrid season, utterly inexcusable.
