Danny,

That post makes waaaaay too much sense for the knee jerk reactionists.

They'd rather we just go splash 30M on players each year when it's just not possible.

Just read this on another forum and thought I would put it here;

£39M debt is a bollix figure from David Conn - as was proven on my request to "Lordyefc" to check out the difference in accounting for debt. He got it to something like £49M. As for running a tight ship - committing EFC to a securitisation deal in his third year in control for £30M and which will cost the club £67M to pay back over 25 years isn't my definition of running on a prudent ticket.

Added to that, he's sold club properties and we're now leasing not owning the club's own academy.

Basically he's done fcuk all as far as I'm concerned. Oh no, sorry, he hired David Moyes...the old fall back argument.

Brilliant peice feel exactly the same would be surprised to see 4-5 players in, dont think we need them either.

Great point about City they have broght in Santa Cruz and Barry, they are good players but hardly going to make that much of a difference, they are not alien to anyone in the leauge. Its not like theyve signed Messi or anyone.

Hate to break it to you, but it doesn't quite work like that.

Villa ( my club ) are in debt to themselves. Chelsea are as well, and probably many more.
There is a massive difference between being in debt to others, and being in debt to yourself. It's basically a way of dodging taxes and more.

Welcome mate. If im honest if i was a Villa fan i would be worried, to go from no debt - the massive amount you have in a few short years is scary, especialy as you have made strides but not massive leaps into CL football. The level of spending is not sustainable and i think that will be evident at Villa this summer.

If Lerner has loaned the money i am sure there is provision for it to be called back in if necessary, if not why call it a loan similarly with Chelsea its naeive to think otherwise.

Not to mention the fact that next season you have lost probably your two best players in Laurson and Barry.

Wouldnt 49 mill leave us in the same position as 39 mill compared to our rivals.

I couldnt care less about Balance sheets.

Chelsea £700m worth of debt. 2 Titles, 2 CL Finals, 3 FA Cups, 2 Carling Cups.
United £699m worth of debt. 6 Titles, 1 CL, 2 FA Cups, 2 Carling Cups.
Everton £39m worth of debt. 1x4th place, 2x5th place, 1 FA Cup Final, 1 Carling Cup Semi.

All those Clubs have debt that can be sustained, just like Everton. We have been waiting years for this bubble to burst. Its not going to happen, everytime they say the TV money will go down and every year it goes up.

The only reason English Clubs cant get the Elite players is the fact that Real are buying them all and the £ is worth nothing, coupled with stupid UK Tax Laws and we just arent attractive at the moment, it will change.

But IF Everton had money we COULD attract quality players, like The Mout.

City tried to build fast, they tabled a bid for Kaka at £107m. They realised they cant attract elite players untill they are in Europe, so this season they will try get in the UEFA, maybe even challenge for top4. Then next Season, when they have Europe, you watch who they buy. Plus they clearly havent finished this Season.

Everybody says "Takeovers dont work", but the clubs in the top 4 have all been subject to takeovers, yeah they all have huge debts, but they challenge for honours, they give their fans CL football. Arsenal only have huge debts because of the new Stadium. Wait till thats paid off, then watch them spend.

Some fans are happy with 5th place finishes, FA Cup finals. It was a great Season, I enjoyed watching my team. We have some great players, we have an excellent manager, but we have a Chairman who hasnt got a clue how to run a Football Club.

The current Everton board havent invested 1 penny into the Club, they are no better than the owners who come in and saddle the Club with huge debts. Its not like we can see where the money has gone. Yes the playing staff has improved. But when you work out the figures, we have spent £3m net for Every season Moyes has been in charge.

I wonder what state we would be in if we didnt have Moyes.

Not worried at all, simply because we don't have debt. You are simply missing the point completely. Lerner has loads of money and the loans reported from the club is simply a smart way of lending money to yourself.

Laursen is a blow, but players come and go.
Barry I'm really not bothered about. He and Petrov never worked out, and he is very replaceable. Good amount of money as well.

Brilliant post that. He should be on this forum, talking sense into the negative element here. :D

We are in a stable position financially and from years gone by, the Leeds United Ridsdale model should be a warning to all. You can't keep rolling up debt, you have to prepare for the darker days. Even the huge investment ploughed into Chelsea, Citeh etc is still debt (not owed to 'ourselves' as Karma put it but owed back to the investor). Anyone putting money ino a business wants to see something in return eventually.

Our current transfer policy simply reflects the current international economic climate We can't spend want we ain't got, so save up to buy it, or sell something that we can get along without (Lescott??) :o

(invite that poster onto GOT Danny!) (y)

Point was devils - fans are bemoaning how late signings will be, raising valid concerns about players needing time to adapt. A player can not actually join up with a new club until the 1st July - only a few days ago. The registration of the player cannot be confirmed until the 1st July. Agreements can obviously be made before - but they're not actually official and so, the player can not join with the new club.

The deadline, for me, will be when Moyes takes them to the US.

Same with me. Although i really hope what business we do is done early because it really gives us a balance to the squad and lets players settle in.

To be honest i would rather be us the Boro, Newcastle, Fulham, Liverpool, Sunderland, Wigan, Arsenal in terms of the econmic situation.

Im not at all worried by City like i said Barry, Sant Cruz maybe even Tevez, its hardly scary andits not like we havnt done well against teams theyve played for. They were in Europe last season and Jan so didnt make much difference, i would be shocked if they finished ahead of us next season i really would.

Like Everton, Utd and Arsenal rely heavily on their managers who by the way arent getting any younger, there will be a massive vacum once they are finally gone which could have a major effect on their finaces with one or a few dogey seasons.

Lastly as we have shown consistently in the last 6-7 years, unless you have the ability to compete with Utd and Chelsea in terms of transfer fees you wont be successfull, see Villa, Spurs, Newcastle, Pompey, West Ham, Fulham Man City (first time and i suspect second time). Hundreds of millions spent on trying to get close to little old Everton and they havnt. Im not bothered, and frankly money is a contributing factor but about 20% of what it takes to be successfull and only if you have enough to compete with Utd or Chelsea.

We have a cracking squad, with it half fit we finished just outside the top four, with a fit squad i think we can push on - i really beleive that, i know we will sign players and they will be good ones, the youth we have thats begun and will be coming through will be the envy of every other club in the league, so why panic and whinge about money, it would be handy but not essential.

For me i wouldnt swap 20 billion in th transfer market for what exists at Everton at the moment.

So to summerise still not worried! (Copyright Neiler Silly Seaon 2008)!

One thing that a team that has David Moyes as their manager, is hard work and effort. If we know that our luck is down, we always know that the players and staff are together as one, and that attribute will make us a team that will be able to battle against the best in the league. We have the quality too, so i'm really not that arsed at the moment. There are enough freebies and loanees around that will bring in sufficent ability.

Is that your opinion mate, or whats happened. Does the lending agreement in place have any liability form Aston Villa to Randy learner if it all goes belly up, hmm i wonder! That level of debt is whopping in about 3-4 years.

How do you see next season going for yous mate, and who would like in the market?

Voted Excited

It’s the start of July. Who and how many we will sign and whether we can afford a player the calibre of Moutinho, I’ve no real idea, you can only speculate. All part and parcel of the excitement of the silly season.

I’m optimistic we will have a stronger squad both in depth and quality before the start of next season. More concerned that we keep Lescott and we don’t pick up a host of serious injuries again.

100% agree - we don't want any prima donnas upsetting our 'karma'! (y)

<stands and applauds>

How football fans of a once successful club got lost in making excuses for an inept boardroom - to the extent they'll pour over facts and figures to come up with mathematical equations to prove what 'great housekeepers' they are - is beyond me. I think it's called "settling".
