Howard is spot on.

What's needed now isn't some jarg philosophy or football for the purist, it's points on the board, pure and simple. We need to be tight, hard to beat and keeping it simple. The players confidence is low, so simplify the football ffs, it's hardly rocket science.

Sherwood showed how it's done on Tuesday, he admitted they'd look to get the ball forward early given their plight - and it worked. A punt from the keeper, flick on from Benteke and a finish from Agbonlahor. Direct football.

I think the question is are we confident of Martinez getting us the required points,or would we be more confident of an interim manager getting us over the line ?

How does it work in the industry THE ?

Does the chairman tell the Chief Exec to leak stories

No, of course not...(YES, has been known, as I'm sure you're well aware)

People who have recently been noticeable via their distinct lack of opinion will suddenly develop an inclination to voice one.

My point is that once those who are opposed to him smell blood, as it were, they will start 'chatting up' after a period of silence. This doesn't just apply to players, pundits also. They play a long game on it....they want to distance themselves from being 'involved' in the hike yet are also FULLY aware that anything they give remotely quotable will 'help' things along the way they want it...

It's grim like...and snidey. Like Steve McMahon in many ways.

He's NOT an excellent orator though mate... I've spent a couple of days, tragic as it is, pouring over interviews, and it's actually quite depressing/upsetting. He's passionate, yes, but it's on repeat for the most, almost script like in its delivery at times, as if he assesses how the interview's gonna be/the result has gone and inside & subliminally goes '...right, this calls for...hmmm, script 2 I think...'

And I hate posting this sort of stuff because I like him....and I hate feeling that his time is almost up too, but I do, I feel that, that's how it is...

Pfff....

IMAGINE THIS....think this is #script 8 (emergency)

I wouldn't mind but we scored a goal almost exactly like that in what was probably the best 45 minutes of football Everton have played since the glory days of the mid 80s.

Barcodes first half at home last season......Howard hoofs it straight fom his own box to the one at the Park End.....Rom controls it, takes it round the keeper and slots.

It is not like he hasn't seen the benefit if alternative tactics in front if his very own eyes.

You could picture him berating Howard fof hoofing it, next day in the inquest room :(

But whatever one's views on Martinez it cannot be in the club's interest to have a long drawn out campaign to undermine him.

Surely it is best to either get rid quickly or leave him alone until the end of the season.

Depends... if you've been daft enough to give him a five year new deal after just a single season, it's much cheaper if he resigns under pressure....

Orly if you dither and wait for him to resign ( he won't they never do ) and are relegated it will turn out to be the most expensive error ever.

He's not going anywhere while we are in Europe. He knows this himself, the longer he can keep the European campaign alive the longer he has to change the fortunes in the league.

As soon as that ends, the pressure will be massive if he hasn't arrested the slide.

He's defo tried different things of late, it's just no matter how many defensive players he picks he doesn't seem able to stop us leaking goals. I think part of this is because he's putting defensive players on the field but not actually changing the way we are playing. So instead of keeping possession in their half, we're doing it in our own, with no forward options. As soon as teams press us they win the ball in favourable areas for them. Why play Gibson if he has to do Barry's running, and if he has no real forward runners to pick out early?

I also think the reason he put Howard straight back in is because of his character. Howard seemed like a poor choice in terms of goalkeeping ability at the time, but Martinez at least recognised that we lacked character in the side and Howard does provide that as Martinez alluded to when speaking about him. I imagine Barry is also playing for the same reasons. As such his selections are a mish mash of ideas.

Totally, utterly agree mate and - TBH - I've never been so torn on anything EVERTON like this before. Never. Ever...

But here lies the problem. We all have opinion, all of it (some of it, as it 'appens, is insane) earned, it's yer right. And some on here are totally pro-BOBSY and are expecting a NU result and a turnaround, yes? My issue, and indeed it will be the clubs issue, is how do you see this happening? Apologies if I repeat, kind of, something I posted the other day (I think)...it's a question/problem, and in theory it's a simple one...

A) The thing we are doing isn't working

+

B) The point blank refusal to change the thing that isn't working

= Well, we know what it equals eh, or could do...

Please, I'm not typing it like that to be patronising in any sense, I just feel it's that simple...so given that I cannot see where the confidence comes from for upcoming games (can those who support him not see/hear...he is TELLING you it isn't going to change)?

And as consequence of that I cannot see how he can continue (after the next 2 PL games) if he remains SO committed to playing the way he does...

Self-belief is brilliant, it's an impressive trait to have.

Though it's utterly calamitous when the only thing it achieves is isolating you. That's what's happening.

Genuinely I feel his intentions are good...great even. And that's the shame of it really...

He's not going to resign, whether your pro or anti I think we can all agree that he's stubborn. It's obvious from the fact that he steadfastly believes his approach is the best way forward.

We also can't afford to sack him 1 year into a five year deal, that's why all this talk is pointless.
