Martinez is worried that rumours that he cannot manage a defence will stick, so he has coached Coleman and Baines to hold back, so that they are on hand to support Jagielka and Stones. On no account must they take the ball to the bye-line, like they were doing when we were good. This tactic will ensure that the goals-conceded statistics show an improvement over the second half of the season, which can go on the idiot's c.v. He's off, no doubt now.

Coleman had plenty of chances last night to bomb forward and didn't take any of them. Usually he set off on a run but immediately his path was blocked he just turned back. In the past he's have tried to get past the blocker.

...when you have somebody who is particularly good at something you don't temper it. The goals he scores from open play is nothing short of amazing, he should be encouraged to build on this. That's why we have 2 defensive midfielders who don't cross the Half way line. It's not rocket science, don't over complicate things.

Unfortunately, I missed the match, 'cos the pub was out of bounds (quack's orders) and the broadband here was on a go-slow. Was Garbutt similarly shackled?
