"I bet you any team below us would love to have our form since Jan"

We've collected 7 points since the turn of the year. The worst performers below us in the same timeframe were QPR and Villa with 4. Hull took 11, Sunderland 6 and the other 2 'dead men' - Burnley and Leicester 5 a piece.

Hardly a gaping chasm in form there like.

Think I recall many saying about 6 games back, next game we will turn the corner. So reckon tonight is another game for turning the corner, but which way in the corner will we turn?

27 games 29 pts 14th position - point gap between EFC and 3rd from bottom 5
28 games 32 pts 14th position - point gap between EFC and 3rd from bottom 8
29 games 33 pts 14th position - point gap between EFC and 3rd from bottom 9
30 games 34 pts 13th position - point gap between EFC and 3rd from bottom 7
31 games 34 pts 14th position - point gap between EFC and 3rd from bottom 6
32 games 37 pts 12th position - point gap between EFC and 3rd from bottom 9

34 games 39 pts 14th position - point gap between EFC and 3rd from bottom 7

37 games 39 pts 16th position - point gap between EFC and 3rd from bottom 6
38 games 39 pts 17th position - point gap between EFC and 3rd from bottom 6

On average, we had a 7th point advantage in the final 12 games over the relegation spots (sometimes worse, sometimes better) and an average position of about 15th...but never did we feel under any great concern about being relegated.

So why are people feeling it now? Maybe we were more blase about it back then because we'd been through worse, or maybe people were being much less downbeat about what might happen because they could see how boxed in the relegation spot teams were. Something's changed anyway, and not for the better.

We are involved in a relegation battle and we need to start winning matches to climb out of it, that's the bottom line! Can't rely on other teams, just need to focus on picking up enough points from our remaining games to stay clear of the bottom 3

I genuinely want Martinez to turn it around and hopefully he will.

I can't stomach the attitude of some of the posters in this thread tho. Apparently, if you dare question the position of a struggling manager, you're a snide, disloyal fan who wants Everton to lose tonight.
I hate that too. There's no need to tar everyone with the same brush just because they disagree with you. For me the vast majority who are concerned and question the position we're in are genuine people. There's merely a handful of hard core agitators who are determined to see the manager out of the door and are petitioning for it as hard as they can. Those people are giving the vast majority of those concerned a bad name. There's only about 5 of them by my estimation (no names no pack drill - they know who they are), but they really are bringing that side of the argument into disrepute, and it's a real shame.

For me, it was because the side he had (Rooney aside) was absolute bilge and rife with internal disquiet, so those performances tended to have excuses. Losing the last five was a bit scary though.

This season the manager has four England and two Belgian internationals in his starting eleven, including a striker with a 1 in 2 goal scoring record, and still can't get a tune out of a fairly decent fiddle. I would imagine it is sheer frustration from most.

lol

By disagreeing with you on a football forum.....I'm sure Bill would use GOT as his key measure for whether he should pot the manager or not.

You should really lay off the green lad.

So only one side has better form thanus then, So I was correct in that they would want our current form over there own

You also need to look at the teams played, We have had Liverpool/Arsenal/City/Chelsea/WBA/Leicester/Palace

Hull have played WBA/West Ham/Newcastle/QPR/Stoke/Sunderland/Villa/City

QPR - Swansea/Burnley/Stoke/Utd/Sunderland/Hull/Southampton

Burnley - Newcastle/QPR/Sunderland/Spurs/Palace/WBA/Swansea/Chelsea

Only Sunderland and Villa have had fixtures that compare to ours imo, The rest have had far easier games yet still sit below us and bar Hull have picked up less points

I still think we will survive, the league position is a worry because of the lost money. Having said that football is and can be unpredictable making predictions or how many points in this game or that is fanciful, past results have shown that.

On the other side of the coin relegation would be a monumental disaster for Everton.

To be honest mate all this about Moyes taking us to 17th is a load of bollocks, no offence.

Moyes took a squad that fought relegation every season to 7th then back down to 17th. There was a different attitude because we had a squad that spent its time fighting each year so the squad bar moyes additions was at that level overall.

Martinez has taken a squad that consistently finished top 7 every season apart from twice. We were the best of the rest most seasons considering the fact we never invested to go that step further in the league. We have, on their day, 11 internationals plus 3 international subsitutes to come on during the game. And good countries, england, ghana, belgium, ireland rather than san marino and bolivia. Our record signing has scored morer than anyother young striker in the modern era at his age, we have two young english talent good enough for the first team nationally. We actually invested money this season without selling to pay for it.

The situations are NOT similar. Moyes took a relegation fighting squad to a relegation battle, Martinez has taken a european fighting team to relegation.

And what makes it worse is that he is not even changing anything on the pitch each week to try and fix the problem. GLaringly obvious problems such as playing 3 defensive minded midfielder, playing strikers and midfielders out wide (just to get them on the pitch), no team structure, no creativity in team tactics when getting the ball to the final third...etc

And its not confidence at all, the players are doing as they are told, and that is the problem.
