I can understand Roberto wanting to stay loyal to a player returning from injury, but he's been poor for some time now.
Misplaced loyalty is ultimately costing us.
Joe Hart
Courtios
Migniolet
These 3 keepers who are infinitely better than Howard, all 3 have had shakey periods & been dropped but all 3 have came back stronger.
Over to you Roberto.

Brilliant point that mate. It's sad that a Liverpool manager has more balls than our own manager. There's no loyalty in football anymore so I don't know why Roberto is showing so much towards TH.

I don't think Howard would come back stronger if dropped though mate.

Without showing my usual hatred for him, his time has just come to finish. It's not bad thing. We've had our £3m worth.

Courtios, Hart and Mingface are all young in keeper terms and being dropped would teach them things. At 78 Howard won't learn.

It's just his time to go.

i think that's the point. The others mentioned are all young (plus, not sure when Courtios has actually been dropped for poor form?). If you dropped Howard, you are probably ending his top flight career, so it is a much harder decision.
However, for me it was a poor decision. No-one would have batted an eye-lid if Joel had have kept his place, with Howard on the bench. Howard would not have been dropped, just the player replacing him was performing well. Once Joel hit a rocky spell, which he undoubtedly would have done, Howard could have come quietly back in. The way it's been handled, i think we will need 2 new keepers in the summer

How do you know this ?

How you think a 36yr old will improve if he was dropped is beyond me

The guy hasn't improved in 9yrs at the club
And is getting worse

Martinez needs to grow a pair and get rid
If he's in goal at the start of next season that would send out for me
A very weak message from our manager

And that could be the beginning of the end for him

He's in decline. Once a shorter keeper loses his spring his decline is sudden. Look at Given going from one of the best in the prem to Villa's reserve. Those reactions that made Howard a good shot stopper and gave him a decent spring have gone. Now he's that tiny bit too slow meaning he's not getting to shots to keep them out or to crosses. This is where older goalkeepers rely on their height and positional sense. Howard has neither.

I will reserve judgement on Howard's future with us. I will wait to see if the leader of the free world believes he is still a secretary of defence. In troubled times, I feel reassured to have such a great man as President Obama totally with his finger on the pulse.

PS I also think President Obama should get a second Nobel Peace Prize.
