Unbelievable comment. Martyn was top drawer at Everton, whereas Howard is a B/C level player who got binned for Roy Carroll.

As for Martinez, the moment he tries to sign Tom Cleverly in the summer should be the moment he gets sent packing.

You are right, Man U do not want Cleverley so why should we? Mind Man U did not want Howard either but our EX signed him and now RM has a love affair with him.

I only go back to the mid/late 60's but

Neville Southall
Nigel Martyn and
Gordon West

were streets ahead of Tim Howard.

To be honest, I'm not convinced he's massively better than the likes of Dai Davies, David Lawson and even Andy Rankin.
Basically, given some of the bog average stuff ( George Wood, Richard Wrong and Paul Gerrard for example ) we've had between the sticks in the last 50 years I'd say "top 5" is damning him with faint praise.

He's decent, but nothing special.

If my Da' was still alive, he would mention Ted Sagar.;)

I remember George Wood playing against City at Maine Road with a huge abscess in his mouth, one whole side of his face looked like he'd been hit with a baseball bat and he was outstanding, and if memory serves me correctly, Joe Corrigan described as one of the best goalkeeping displays he'd ever seen especially give GW could hardly speak, never mind tell at his defence.

Had one good season out of the 3 he was here, Martyn.

That season he was superb, left Howard in the dust but he wasn't great in most of the games he played.

Player of the year in his first season, the next year was THAT year we finished 4th and he was imperious. I'm sorry but he blows Howard out of the water completely

my respect for martinez drops every week by his spineless team selections. its costing us points and I think it will ultimately cost him his job.
