back from the land of no interweb aka the far side of the great divide ( victoria section ) forgot we were playing mid week as well and have just watched it and the Derby.
results did not exceed expectations.
my only observation is ( not that I want him back and his leaving was beyond our control ) but we could've had the same with moyes and been 28M better off.
where that leaves our lame duck board, season and manager god knows.
so it's #2296th from him and over and out from me.

I dont rate Lennon too similar to what we get from McGeady on the other side. Fast feet but ultimately a poor final ball. Lukaku is a striker short on confidence and its no wonder when we attack without any belief or purpose. Last season and probably under DM we would have seen that out last night.

You're completely entitled to have your own opinion. Nobody said otherwise. I merely suggested (as I'm also completely entitled to do) that if you like banging on about history, or another club's lack of history, that there's another club for that. Basically, I'm saying that's kopite behaviour without directly saying "that's kopite behaviour". Sure, appreciate history, but what matters is right now and don't belittle an entire club's fanbase because you're upset that we lost 1-0.

Yes, I understood the initial indirect comparison. I'm sure we've all had rants after being frustrated with a game. Mine was just that, but I stand by my disdain for Chelsea. It probably goes back to their booing of a Chelsea goal against Bolton in 1998, when they wanted Everton to go down. Accusing somebody of kopite behaviour because they use "get some history" in a clearly kneejerk, emotional rant is a little annoying. Hence my defence of it! Time to move on now anyway- I've chilled out!

We have become more solid at the back, with Stones coming back, and the 2 holding midfielders playing closer to the back 4 so there is little space between the back 4 and midfield. We are set up to counter attack and that is were the speed of Lennon will be used. A solid set up for the Europa League away game at Young Boys. But we need to take our chances. Lukaku should have buried that cross from Oviedo last night.

The Leicester game will see us set up a bit differently as we will need to play a more attacking game.

Leicester will present us with quite a few difficulties. I would prefer we maintain our current defensive set up and hit them on the counter. We must get at least a point

Good performance from the lads and we didn't deserve to lose.

Howard - 7 - Came back in and played really well I thought. Was unfortunate with the goal but looks like Joel's showings have given him a kick.
Coleman - 6 - Defended well but wasn't able to get forward much.
Stones - 9 - Best player on the pitch - bar Matic. Superb talent and our team looks 100x stronger with him in it.
Jagielka - 8 - Organised well and through his body in front of everything.
Oviedo - 6 - Same as Coleman really, but another solid performance.
Besic - 6 - Was given the run-a-round a bit by Hazard but still played well. Subbed to protect him I feel.
Barry - 6 - Probably his best game for us in a long time but a stupid tackle for his second booking.
Lennon - 6 - Decent full debut - tracked back really well but would've liked to have seen him run at Azpilicueta more with the Spaniard booked.
Barkley - 5 - Really frustrating performance. He seemed scared to run at people or play a forward pass - lack of support didn't help.
Naismith - 5 - Ran around a lot but was pretty ineffectual up top. Defended well and got unlucky with the deflection for the goal.
Lukaku - 7 - Led the line really well and was unlucky not to score twice thanks to two great saves.

Subs:
McCarthy - 8 - Superb again.
Mirallas - 6 - A few bright moments but should've played it to Coleman instead of shooting from distance.
Gibson - 5 - Pressed well. Good to see him back.

Already he looks a small step up from McGeady however unlike McGeady I think he will get better.

I don't think Rom is short on confidence. He probably needs a goal but he has been one of our better players and his workrate, hold up play and touch has improved massively.

We just need to improve the service into him.
