that's what it really comes down to in the end. What ambitions do we have a club?
Backup squad player in case of injury at best for me...but to others he is first picked. The table doesn't lie...

Horses for courses. He was perfect for playing the deeper role today and linked up well with Barry and Besic.

Change the formation/players depending on what the situation demands. It's what Chelsea do and is why they are top of the league.

He wouldn't get a game in the Chelsea reserves...that is my point

Don't think it is a new thing. I have been saying it all season he is a squad player at best for a mid table club.
If we want to have ambitions for European football and top 5 finishes he can't be getting as much game time as he is this season. Not good enough.

who is saying he is? I don't have a problem with people criticising him it's an important part of football, it's the ill-mannered nature in which it's being done for a player who gives his all for the club.

Just making an opinion. Gives his all granted. But I want to win something again please. Consistently.

"He wouldn't get a game in the Chelsea reserves..."

that isn't "just" an opinion is it, it's sinister.
I'll give you another one...McGeady wouldn't get one either...hardly sinister. Not every player can be Diego Maradona. Doesn't mean saying that is sinister.

he has been a bit meh for a good few games lately, i would say rest him for the derby in place of barkley who has been even worse, but naismith just have a great goalscoring knack in such games, so possibly wouldn't do that.

he needs a rest soon though as he does do a lot of running and it's hindered his performances lately.

I think Kithnou has got it just about right. Naismith is not good enough to be in EFC's team.

He loses the ball time after time, has no pace, tends to slow down moves but he has positive points and yesterday I thought he was an important factor in the win.

I just hope Barkley regains his form asap or maybe RM can buy an upgrade asap or McCarthy gets back soon. Anything but lets get Lukaku a decent partner.

Naismith for me is a more difficult player to criticise because he does have some qualities. I could more easily get stuck into McGeady, as everyone knows and is probably sick of hearing from me, because I don't think he should be putting an Everton shirt on at any level...dud...but lets leave him for another thread. Do we want seasons like last season regularly as a club? If that is our ambition players like Naismith, and I could name more, can't be regular players in the 1st team squad.
