Depends, but there are times as in this perhaps for a player to be moved on to generate funds to get players for positions where there is no adequate cover. IN the case of LB we have Oveido and Garbutt both younger than Baines, therefore better prospects for the future given the age of Baines.

I am not advocating the sale of Baines, the Original post was just to gauge feeling on this.

Neither Oviedo or Garbutt are as good as Baines though.

On paper there not but as last season showed oviedo was more impressive, so it wouldnt be end of the world.


No point arguing on it though cant see baines going anywhere soon

Friend they are only young and need game time especially Garbutt. That way they will get experience.

he's a full-back when after 22 premier league games has assisted 8 goals, only bettered by one player. played 5 europa league games and assisted 3, also scoring 3 goals in total.

Compare those statistics with every other full back in Europe

then Google the definition of special

Even with his greatly exaggerated defensive culpability's for a full-back to be directly contributing to a goal nearly every other game more than makes up for the odd defensive error in my opinion.

in terms of assists yes, defensively no but his attacking threat is what makes him special. If you believe his defensive culpability's are a problem and shouldn't be played due to it, that is a point you can make. Doesn't stop him meeting the criteria of special "better, greater, or otherwise different from what is usual"

Think his stats cover up how subdued hes been again in both aspects of his play, hes had patches were hes looked like his old-self of a few years ago but on the whole dont think hes been anything special going forward

He's our best, most consistent player, has been for years.

Even when we were struggling, he was moved into defensive mid and was still class.

Him having a 'quiet' season (with his 8 assists) isn't the reason we're crap this season.
