Leighton Baines

What did people think of his sporadic appearances in centre midfield? I thought he looked good and offers a wider, more creative range of passing than Barry and Besic.

Seems a bit strange that we just persist with Besic and Barry, who I both rate, when we have 2 substitute left backs in Garbutt and Oviedo.

What you reckon blues? Should the experiment be persisted with?

I think it depends on the opposition. He seemed to get fouled a lot in that game, so not sure how much he enjoyed it himself. His positioning isn't as good as Barry's and he doesnt challenge aerially the same, but his passing is defo better and he also offers forward runs etc. I think it's worth trying again in selected games, if only to give Garbutt more experience at left back.

Bainesy one of the most intelligent footballers we have.

At this moment in time, i really feel like Baines is the only one who understands what is going on, most players would only care about relegation being on their CV and who shall i go to next.
Baines seems to have a wise head and a good footballing ability, he loves Everton.

Absolutely agree.

There was a moment Monday first half where he picked up the ball at left back and was greeted with the usual devoid of ideas expression from the players ahead. So what did he do? He ran at west Brom with a bit of purpose and won a free kick on the edge of the area.

Need a few more stepping up, but yeah you're right, he obviously cares.

Tell you what was a disgrace on Monday, that free kick he took down the left after being pulled back.
Near the end of the game and a great chance to make something happen and he hits it straight to the defenders feet.
nearly as crap as kevs penalty.

Not for me, Beeky.

He is too old a dog to be learning new tricks.

That does beg the question, why to ManUre let Rooney take free kicks all the time when they have Mata?
Is it in his contract?
