Sampdoria’s plans to sign Samuel Eto’o from Everton could be complicated by late interest from New York Cosmos, according toSky sources. The Italian club’s sporting director Carlo Osti said on Wednesday that an agreement with Eto’o had almost been finalised and that the 33-year-old wants to join Sampdoria. However, New York Cosmos' interest complicates matters.

The Cosmos thing makes no sense if you beleive the 'wants to be near family' thing.

If the 'free to an Italian club' clause is true then the delay post the NY Cosmos interest makes sense, as they will have no doubt offered us a fee. Our preference would therefore be to sell to them rather than let him walk on a free to Sampdoria, hence the comments from Italy about not being able to get hold of anyone.

He joined us as he hated his family in Italy. Now, he hates Roberto more so he will sign for the New York team now.

so why did he not go when they showed interest in him in the summer? in fact when did his family move to Italy? before or after he joined Chelsea? before or after he spurned advances from teams in Italy to join Everton? Did he not think he wanted to be with his family back in August when he was sitting like a cat that got the cream, beside Martinez, after signing a '2' year deal?
