For all the dysmal run we gave been on since Spurs away, there are still eight teams below us, such us the poor quality of the self proclaimed best league in the world.

We will stay up by default with about 34 points.

For god's sake!!!! he's not spent the last 10 years on the 12th moon of Jupiter - the man practically breathes football! At least he's not phenomally delusional and has had the benefit of a bird's eye view in every game throughout this stinking, rotten excuse of a season!

This doesn't compare to other sentimental appointments like Southgate at Boro, Shearer at Newcastle or Dalglish at deh shyt. The first two were inexperienced, and although Dalglish was never the man to move them forward, they at least won a sodding trophy!

Indeed, am I suggesting that Joe is going to give us long term success? No. Do I think he'll take a good hard look at the state of affairs and secure short term stability in a broken dressing room with no leadership? Yes.

He's forgotten more than Roberto knows and if he can get us out of the mess we were in 20 years ago, he can CERTAINLY get us out of this one. His emphasis was always on playing to strengths and teamwork - nobody was bigger than the club back then and it showed.

Royle teams were built around a strong spine - Walker's "progressive" brand of football seriously undermimed the abilities of Southall and Watson, and by the time Walker was coming to the end, they both looked ripe for the knackers yard. 7 months later, they are FA Cup winners.

Dog of War in midfield, Ferguson in attack. He arrived at the same time as some no mark callled Ian Durant, and looked to be going the same way (back north) until Royle used the shape of the team to make the most of Dunc.

Ditto Limpar, he practically had one foot on the first plane to Japan. Royle took him to one side first day of training and said he believed in him. Limpar was our most "gifted" player back then before AK arrived, so the team (drumroll) played to his strengths!

This time around, there is a lot more quality. Surely Royle can take Barkley to one side and (having love-tapped his lug) tell him "look son, fook what the crowd think, some nutters think you're worth 40 million. Just play as you know you can, because it will come off eventually".

Just imagine, if BK times his axe swing properly, Big Joe's first game could ONCE AGAIN be Liverpool at home.... under the lights! Deja futhamucking vu! Surely THAT's got to be worth something. It'd be something for those lazy barsteward journos to milk at least....

The saddest part is the Palace game is even more important than the derby.

If we are to win one and lose one, beating Palace is the more helpful result for us.

I was really disappointed with Martinez's post-match comments. He must have seen or heard the players reaction when Mirallas took the ball under his arm and headed single-mindedly to the penalty spot. Naismith, Lukaku and Coleman were vehemently opposed and clearly thought the man for the job was Baines. His comments gave a little bit to everyone: Yes, Mirallas scored in the penalty shoot-out and felt confident. He was subtituted because he didn't feel 100% (perhaps the only least obvious thing he said). Baines is the number one penalty shooter... Besic was injured blah... blah... blah... Evertonians are not fools. We know our football and for him to come out and speak in the manner that he did was frankly dishonest. I could name a few managers who put team togetherness and spirit way above any spoilt brat, no matter how talented,

Jagielka seemed to have gone missing, and he should be the leader. This team has no back-bone, no spine. I read mixed views on people's views on Phil Neville but he was a leader of men. He never hid. He could rally the troops. Jagielka hasn't been at his best this season and seems bothered about his own game rather than leading the players. Where was he when the players quarrelled before the penalty? Does he have a voice? If he has, is anybody listening. And if he hasn't, then he shouldn't be captain!
