Roberto Martinez discussion

So I will say it again.

You are wanting to bin Everton history and write off the contribution of all our great centre forward's from Dean to Dunc.

You say our great teams played with a "mixture"

Which is correct.

So did our team when Dunc was in his pomp.....he had boys like Anders Limpar and Andre Kanchelsjs doing for him what Dave Thomas did for Big Bob or John Morrissy did for Joe.

Joe Parkinson was awesome in our midfield in the mid 90s.....he was never bypassed.

It is a complete fiction to say we played like Wimbledon and bypassed midfield in Dunc's day.

Unfortunately devotees of tiki taki are so blinded by it they regard those of us less enamoured with this strange art as being "dinosaurs".

Divil the bit.

We don't want to sit at Goodidon on freezing cold winter days being "educated" and bored in equal amounts.

We want to see our team compete.....and if that means Ty Rex firing it in for Big Bronty Saurus to knock it in the back of the cave then be it so :p

Still talking sh!te I see. So basically you are saying Everton have always been a long ball team. Please don't insult the name of Everton.

With regards to the big dunc era even Kanchelskis used to complain why the ball is in the air all the time and its not football (Neville Southalls 95-96 season Diary). How long did we have limpar, Kanchelskis in the same team compared to the legth of time we had Ferguson. If you actually believe that we played good footy without Kanchelskis then you are easily pleased. The comparisons with Latchford and Thomas/ Royle and Morrissey are feeble to say the least. They actually crossed the ball to the big men not lumped it.....can you see the difference.

So if you are saying our great history was based on lump football then you are sadly mistaken.

Howard from his book:

"Roberto had a reputation for being classy and confident, affable and intelligent. Officially I was optimistic. But in truth I felt very wary and defensive. Everton was my team. He was the newbie. He'd be bringing a different style with him, not to mention a new goalkeeping coach. He was going to have to earn the right to belong. He and his whole gang".

I bet he wasn't alone in those thoughts either. We can all see from that the task he's had on his hands (and still does) getting this squad he largely inherited on board, recommissioned and facing in the right direction.

Martinez needs time and space to work and get the old guard out and new blood in who play his way by second nature.

Big task there, takes time ...and youre spot on again.

When was Ferguson 'in his pomp'?? He was a terrible forward, only twice in 11 seasons hit double figures for us in the league, the most being 11..

All good successful teams mix it up there's a difference between playing a long ball game and playing long passes. First and foremost you win the battle of midfield that's been the way since football was invented. We did it in the 60,s. The gobshites did it in the 70,s we did it again in the 80,s then utd Chelsea and so on. Win the ball then the players without the ball move into space pulling the opposition out of position then use pacey players to get the ball forward quickly. These managers today try to be too clever with over complicated formations. It's a simple game of pass and move. Hunt the ball down in packs when the opposition have it. Just on our goalkeeper by the way, how many goals have we conceeded in our own 6 yard box. Too many. He's rooted to his line the number of times he could have come out and took crosses. Has cost us as much as anyone. I'm getting a bit fed up with it now.

You lost me at the fourth word.

It is not my custom to conduct conversations with foul mouthed boors so let me leave you with this thought, sir.

When a fellow is reduced to using the language of the gutter during the course of an imternet debate it is always a sure sign he has lost his argument.

Which you most assuredly have on this occasion.

Wow sh!te equals foul mouthed. I will wash my mouth out with soap now if it makes you feel any better. I am totally disgusted with myself for saying sh!te. Bad me.

PS. Argument was not lost as you said Everton have played long ball in all there History and I am correcting you.
