Roberto Martinez discussion

Glad you mentioned the defence ethic. I think I reached burnout discussing things this week, the problem is the only people who can answer our questions is RM and his coaching team. I have been thinking back to pre season where RM massively under prepared the team to allow for the vigour's of a long EL season. I am just wondering now if this lack of pressing /standing off is a anti burn out exercise. I can't believe fit 21 year olds like ross Barkley would just let players run past them without even trying to challenge unless they were told to not track back. ( just a idea going through my head so don't go ballistic on my ass)

We are all up in the air actually as to what is going on and what RM hopes to achieve before the season end in readiness for the next season, big if of course if we are still here. But actually we are really to good to go down but a couple more defeats could see us slugging it out with Burnley, QPR, and Leicester. Not nice.

Howard from his book:

"Roberto had a reputation for being classy and confident, affable and intelligent. Officially I was optimistic. But in truth I felt very wary and defensive. Everton was my team. He was the newbie. He'd be bringing a different style with him, not to mention a new goalkeeping coach. He was going to have to earn the right to belong. He and his whole gang".

I bet he wasn't alone in those thoughts either. We can all see from that the task he's had on his hands (and still does) getting this squad he largely inherited on board, recommissioned and facing in the right direction.

Martinez needs time and space to work and get the old guard out and new blood in who play his way by second nature.

Okay Dave who did he inherit that was playing first team football when he started as manager and who do you think are the old guard to be moved on?

I dont understand the first part of the question - you surely dont want a simple list of players who played under Moyes and then Martinez?

The old guard that need to be pushed out the door: Howard, Jagielka, Distin, Osman, Hibbert.

Wow, Howard comes across as well out of order, Martinez needs to get rid and bring in a keeper this Jan or he will face the same issues as moyes.

A 300 page book, and apart from the bit I quoted already there's another sentence a few pages on regarding having taken part in an 'invigorating season' (though no word of Martinez) last season and that's all the reference there is to the new management regime.

He's been overall a very decent GK for us, but that is very disappointing. It's defo the case he identified and still identifies only with Moyes.

The old guard need punting asap. Their loyalties lie elsehwere. I wouldn't put Baines in that column like. He's a class act Baines and will be an honest player under any manager. Strikes me that way at least.
