Roberto Martinez discussion

Distin has played 12 league games this season and we haven't kept a clean sheet in any of them. In fact we have conceded 26 goals when he has played.

In the 7 games he hasn't played we have kept 3 clean sheets, conceding just 5 goals.

I don't think any more needs to be said about that.

Martinez should've bought adequate CB cover in the summer. That's a mistake on his part but if Stones & Alcaraz are fit for Hull and Jagielka returns soon then I would suspect Distin has played his last game in an Everton shirt.

The manager is far from flawless but I have full faith in him. Get rid of Distin and any other dead wood, replace with hungry players and we will be flying again. Vault me.

If you think Distin is the source of the problem, you are very much mistaken. Please watch the second half against Stoke, Spurs and Hull.

Then come back.

The other stand-out figure of Martinez’s reign is the incredible number of hamstring injuries his players have suffered with the tally now standing at 18 since he came to the club following James McCarthy’s failure to reappear for the second half on Sunday.

It was McCarthy’s third separate setback in recent weeks and the findings of the forensic study the Everton manager commissioned on why the midfielder is suffering repeated hamstring problems have presumably not yet come through. Or, they have been ignored.

Everton’s head of medicinal services, Danny Donachie, left the club last week following apparent disagreements on the treatment of players.

The simple theory is McCarthy is being rushed back too soon each time because he is so influential. If he is out again, he will be missed at Hull on New Year's Day.

Hmmmmm

Increasing media pressure should help Martinez to change his style. Pundits are saying what we the masses are saying, and even other managers have hinted at how predictable we are. They must love coming into games against us at the minute, don't have to second guess us at all.

It's a sink or swim moment for Martinez really. He either accepts that you don't need a million passes to win a game or he persists until he's fired.

What i find staggering is we have faced less attempts on goal this season compared to previous season.

To me that suggests the gk is not doing good enough.

We might have faced less shots, only 2 less i think it is,but surely we have made more Error's this season already, than some seasons put together.these errors have been massive this season and been punished on everyone bar 2

To be fair, if Stones hadn't been injured at OT and Alcaraz in the Swansea league game, Disdin wouldn't have been anywhere near the first team since the cup tie in Wales.

He is fourth choice at best and is only playing because of the injuries.

Exactly. I just think in the summer we should have bought a new CB who is comfortable in our system.

A huge part of us playing so poorly is the injuries, we've had appalling luck with them. For long periods we've had our best defender out and our two most influential midfielders out. You can't expect to play well with the spine of your team taken out. Not to mention Howard's abomination of a season.

It's all Distins fault

Hahaha couldn't make it up

I didn't say everything was Distin's fault. If you read some of my other posts I haven't been happy with some of Martinez's decisions lately, for example playing Eto'o in midfield is absolutely shocking, amongst many other things.

The other players are responsible too but the fact is we concede a lot more goals when Distin has played this season. He unsettles with his nerviness on the ball and we still don't know what really happened when he supposedly fell out with Martinez. This could be true yet he's forced to play him through injuries. We need defenders who are completely comfortable playing out from the back and then we won't be so vulnerable when teams press us high up the pitch like they are doing now.

The point is the manager needs at least another two windows to put together a squad that is his, and get rid of all the leftover deadwood.

As for our overall play, the team has zero confidence at the moment. We need a couple of good results from anywhere, even if they're ugly, just to get confidence back.

I just think it's far too early to be calling for the managers head. He has a long term vision for the club and we should give him at least a bit more time to try and implement it. I'd rather that than us get another "safe" dinosaur in.

I'm predicting a much more positive last third of the season anyway. I think we'll do much better in February-May and carry it through to next season.
