Roberto Martinez discussion

And I think most people thought it would be difficult...so why they cant have some bloody patience while he changes things and refreshes the squad is beyond me.

It's possible to change things if he adopt something different. Like I said before, if every manager in the league knows how to deal with us, then it's up to us to do something different that works in order to build up some confidence. Not doing the same thing over and over again to destroy the confidence of the players because it's not working. If he continue to stick with how we're playing, then he need to buy some really good players that could create chances and spaces by individual ability but I don't think we can do that with our limited budget, these players cost a lot in the open market today.

Confidence and form comes after you do something right and it works, not doing something similar every time when you know it's not going to work.

Earn the confidence, it's not gonna drop from the sky.

But that begs the obvious question: why change at all? Record points haul, Damn close to nipping arsenal to 4th..kinda, players playing with creativity and purpose.

And THIS is how he wants them to play? @Axlswhk said it above, you either play to get the best results from your players which it seems he did last year, or you become rigid with a "philosophy"(God I hate that word in football) that seems to be undoing everything good you did last year. And I cannot imagine that having literally no width is part of his plan, yet he sticks by it always.

I dont think he is changing it that drastically and I also dont think we have zero width as some suggests. Having two players on the pitch who are known wingers does not always mean more width...likewise having two nonwingers out there doesnt mean we never use the flanks. We do. Quite clearly we do. We just dont open up any space out wide or central on a regular basis and for me this comes down yo execution. If the bulk of your most important players are not playing passing or movig well then changing tactics or starting with wingers wont make much of a.difference.

I am certain his style will look well with players with confidemce and form....and even better when he has further upgraded the squad.

Having said that...I am not saying 100% this is the fault of the players confidence/form alone and Bobby should be untouchable. I dont know. However I do know that some do seem to be certain its all his fault and want rid..with no mention of any other factors.

I don't want rid of anyone save dead wood players(who, if used right, can actually be beneficial). I think Martinez is a very good manager, but he rally needs to be flexible. The way we are playing now isn't working. It's been damn near half a season and it's shown to be a flop with a ridiculously talented squad. The players haven't been doing that well themselves either. I don't know, I can't really pinpoint the issue..

I would argue that it is possible that at moments in our season when we may habe gotten the confidence up...whilst playing the style many now hate...the players heads dropped again because one or two players handed the opposition a goal out of nowhere.

This at least is a plausible alternative to what you are suggesting...no?

My main point is theres lots of factors in this and its too simplistic to just blame the boss.

Me neither!

The issue is that we have become predictable and lack the quality to unlock teams that sit deep and hit us on the counter. Teams now know that if you stop us on the flanks and pack the middle we will give up chances at the other end. It's why last season when Deulofeu would come on the game would suddenly open up, his pace alone changed the speed of our attacks and he wasn't afraid to beat a man or two. We lack anybody like that at the moment, a direct player pacey player who commits the other team.

I imagine Atsu was meant to provide the above. Obviously hasn't worked.

Cannot wait to vault the living *hite out of this thread come May.

What if he doesnt make it to May?

Ive been having a think, I think his row with Distin has destroyed the squad.

Some players will be on Distins side, some players will feel as tho Distin "got away with it", some players will just think whats the point.

What I witnessed yesterday wasnt just a team in a bad run of form, it was a team that showed ZERO heart, ZERO fight and a team that simply didnt care.

What if we simply just keep losing?

For me he's treating the league as a testing ground for Europa, trying to pee about with this formation in the hope it works out in the EL regardless of us dropping points.

Spanish clown

Mike walker mk2 no doubt about it. The board acted in time back in 94 I don't think they will be as prescient now, unfortunately. Not with Kenwirght who will without doubt put his own interests above those of the club.

But his own interests are best served by keeping the club in the EPL, Kev.

The club is worth way more to potential buyers if we are in the top flight rather than the Championship.

If we are still in freefall by the end of January then I would expect Bill to take decisive action before much longer.

He will do well at Barcelona, reason is because almost every player from defender to striker are capable of dribbling. Dribbling itself creates space, if you manage to get past one defender, another one will rush forward to stop you, hence creating space for other players to be left unmarked. You won't see them passing sideways or backwards aimlessly without a cutting edge like we do.

There are two types of manager, first type is to create an efficient and effective playing style that suits the player at his disposal. The other is to stick by his philosophy and style no matter what type of players he has. We are witnessing the latter now.

Lord save us from philosopher managers....:(
