Roberto Martinez discussion

It's as much about belief as well as pace and tempo. The team spirit is far too fragile at the moment, as soon as something goes against us there's a collective dropping of heads. We finished the first half pushing for an equaliser yesterday and came out in the second half and just drifted through the game as though we could do nothing to change it. It reminds me of our form in 83 when we had a team of good players scared to make things happen. I think it might take a bit more than a dodgy back pass to rectify this slumber though.

By the end of new years day we will have a better idea of which way we are heading ,we have Newcastle and Hull away. Newcastle are on a bad run but are capable of turning it round while Hull away is possibly the worst time to play them as they have just had probably there best result of the season.
RM will definitely be given until the end of the season and that is probably the right thing to do but when we come to play West Brom at home( after City) the game could become pivotal to our season.
I was wearing the mask when he took over and he certainly surprised me last season but there were also worrying aspects to what was a good season. The performance at Anfield was horrendous and could have gone down as the worst derby performance in the clubs history as we were lucky to only concede four.
We have to stick with him for now and hope he can turn it round. What choice do we have?

My opinion is that there are enough worse teams below us to ensure we don't go down.

But I wouldn't bank on it.

What I will say us that if we were to go down, we should not do so with Martinez still at the helm, still playing tiki sodding taka or whatever the heck it is called and still talking about a "philosophy".

I am not expecting any more than a maximum of two points out the next three games so by the time Baggies come here it will be a six pointer.

If we are hovering just above the trap door at the beginning of February and Martinez is still playing the same way then I think Bill will call a taxi.

There is way too much at stake these days to allow a man with the wrong plan to lead you into the abyss in the style of the Pied Piper.

I think think there are 2 teams that will definitely go Burnley and Liecester the others are capable of showing the grit to get out of it the question is do we have that grit? Someone posted yesterday that we have comitted less fouls than anyone and also been fouled against more than any other team if that is true they are not the attributes of a team in a relegation struggle.
I do not believe Bill will pull the plug I think he is with us until the season ends at least.I remember Wigan fans on the radio the year before he left when he managed to keep them up and there was talk of him going to Villa, they were asked about him leaving and to be honest the consensus of opinion was good riddence.

I agree with Davek about movement, we lack any movement off the ball. It's well documented that Martinez loves player who could dribble, and his game plan is about players dribbling pass defender to create space, very little emphasis is given to off the ball movement to create space. The problem is we don't have a lot of players capable of driibling in our team. To play a passing game without off the ball movement is the biggest sin in football. Take a look at any of our game this season, whenever someone is holding onto the ball, the rest of the team is static, they don't move into space and create a favourable passing angle. Almost every pass is to feet of a static player standing still to receive the ball. If you're static, defenders don't need a lot of effort to mark you out of the game.

That's beyond basic though and we've been lacking that movement for months. How can he not see and then rectify this simple and blindingly obvious fact?

He looks like he's not got a clue what to do, to arrest the slide to me, as he's made zero adjustments to the way we've been playing. He needs to sort it and fast.

Mike walker mk2 no doubt about it. The board acted in time back in 94 I don't think they will be as prescient now, unfortunately. Not with Kenwirght who will without doubt put his own interests above those of the club.

Our off the ball under moyes was good. The team was drilled to do a lot of that and it was clear to see during match day. Even big fella like fellaini was constantly involve in little triangle on our left between Pieenar and Baines. This aspect of our game hasbeen lost gradually in the span of one and a half season, more emphasis are put upon having creative individualistic winger to create anything out of nothing and that is why everyone here is shouting for a winger.
