It's difficult and I can see why you'd question Jagielka over Distin, but I think the main thing is that if they're both playing well, Jagielka is just an all round superior player.

If Alcaraz is playing well, he's a good player. The problem is, no one is playing well!

Honestly I'd be looking at who benefits Stones the most as he's the one with the future, and the one who isn't tosh right now. For me, Distin is a superior CB partner.

However, don't let me oversell Distin. I know he's been poor, I just think someone needs to offer some balance. Jagielka's getting off very lightly.

Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee - the pair of them sicken me. If there's anything that highlights everything bad about what's going on right now on the pitch it's those two washed up wastes of space. Distin with his gob on him and 'Captain' Jagielka and his non-existent backbone. Both of them utterly average at best, a calamity waiting to happen at worst.

If Stones is fit I'd put him and Barry or him and Besic in there straight away and get those two frauds out of the club in January it anyone was stupid enough to give a reasonable fee.

Merry Christmas Dave, 'tis the season to be jolly lol

Jagieka is better at bringing the ball out of defence that Distin - Distin looks like is he going to give the ball away, when he tries to bring the ball out of defence.

Imo, one out of Stones and Alcaraz need to play, as they are the only 2 cbs we own who will take the ball out of defence and stop what is happening at the moment, where the opposition can press our defence, and we cannot play around them. This is because Jagielka and Distin do not trust themselves enough to take the ball forward, and no cms are making angles. Add on to this, some of Stones' blocks are world class, and Alcaraz is actually half decent in the air, might help us with set pieces at both ends. I would say first choice for me is Stones and Jagielka, but second choice is Stones and Alcaraz.

Just joined this thread now for the first time in ages.

Surely people aren't even doubting Distin's getting the bullet today, he's got to be, I never even thought it was a question to be asked.

There's a common denominator to our capitulation a this year and it's him. Add in the alleged fall out with Bobby, the fact he only worked his was back into the line up due to injuries to Stones and Alcaraz plus his quite dreadful form, he's finished here.

I'm hopeful he's played his last ever game for us as I think Barry might jump ahead of him as a left sided centre half now as Gareth's getting older finding it hard to keep ahead of the young midfielders we've got.

I've always liked Distin, I wanted us to sign him for ages prior us doing so and he's been a great buy but there's no sentiment in football, it's time for him to move on.

He is one of five who should undoubtedly be in their last season with Everton:

Distin
Osman
Hibbert
Pienaar
Howard
I don't see why it should be Howards last season. Wasn't that long ago he was beasting it in the world cup, and yea he flaps at some [Poor language removed] this year but damn - our defence has been shocking! Howard is always mr reliable when we have a solid backline.

You'll all eat your words :) come on timmy
