ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Sadly, that's not correct. They already have the first tiebreaker against Ludogorets (win and a draw over the two legs), so the Bulgarian side has to better the Turds' result against Basel. If the Turds beat Basel, they finish second in the group and make the final 16 in the CL. If they draw or lose (assuming Ludogorets gets the same result), they finish third and drop to the CL, likely as one of the four unseeded third-place teams. They lose and Ludogorets gets a draw at Real Madrid (or draw and Ludo gets the upset win of all time) and the Turds are done like the proverbial dinner.
Even if they finish among the top four third-place finishers and get seeded in the EL draw, we can't play them in the round of 32. Nor can we play Spurs or Wolfsburg.

They won't be seeded in the EL draw as they basically will lose (or draw) against Basel. 4 or 5 points will mean they are unseeded bar a strange set of fluky results allowing for lots of teams on 5 or less points losing and finishing 3rd in other groups.

Group A 3rd will be on 6 to 9 points > Liverpool's 4 or 5
Group C 3rd will be on 7 or 8 points > Liverpool's 4 or 5
Group G 3rd be on 6 or 7 or 8 > Liverpool's 4 or 5

Group D Anderlecht will finish on 5 (if losing) or 6 or 8
Group E 3rd will be on 5 (but only if both matches end in wins) or 6 or 8
Group F 3rd will be on 3 or 4 or 5
Group H 3rd will be on 5 or 6 or 7

So for Liverpool to be seeded they firstly need to draw (not lose) with Basel to have a chance of being 4th= on points before applying tiebreakers which will rely on:

Anderlecht losing by 3 goals (to finish on 5 points) - level with Liverpool
Bayern v CSKA and Roma v Man City to finish in wins (for the team in 3rd to finish on 5 points)- level with Liverpool
Probably for Ajax to not beat APOEL at home (to not achieve 5 points)
Ath Bilbao to draw with BATE (so neither side gets to 6 points) to finish on 5 points

and then to win the tie breaker with Anderlecht, One from Man City's group, Ath Bilbao and Ajax..

The four best third-ranked teams are seeded for the UEFA Europa League
round of 32. This ranking is determined in accordance with the following
criteria (in descending order):
a) higher number of points obtained in the group matches
b) superior goal difference
c) higher number of goals scored
d) higher number of away goals scored
e) higher number of wins
f) higher number of away wins
g) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question,
as well as its association,

at b) Liverpool would finish - with a draw - on GD -4 which will be worst than Ath Bilbao's -3 (Bilbao DRAW/WIN to finish on 5 or 7 points or LOSE which gives BATE 6 points):

So I can guarantee that Liverpool WILL NOT be seeded in Europa League knock-out draw if they finish 3rd if they draw or lose against Basel.

Very clever tactic from Rodgers. Subtly ridiculing the notion of him getting sacked so soon after 'winning manager of the year', trying to create sympathy for himself and basically saying to Henry and co. that they'd be fools to sack him.

I just wanted to put the RS in their rightful place and check on my facts before posting the full story.

So we can say with absolute certainty that their first game in Europe after playing Basel will be either:

Against a group winner in the CL round of 16 (hopefully one of the big 5 or 6)
Against a group winner in the Europa League (hopefully a decent Italian or Spanish team)

or... perhaps, against FC Total Krap from Azerbaijan in the 3rd Qualifying Round of the Europa League in 2018-19 having spent another £250M to achieve this great landmark.

He can smell the compo already. Probably booked himself in for a spare set of gnashers.

"God-king Brendan last looked out
on the slip of Steven
when they passed the ball about
and the scores were even
Gerrard slipped and Ba stole in
life is sometimes cru-el
his last chance to win the prem

I'll wait for the movie, thanks.

Anyone noticed Brenda's voice in the last few weeks, has lost that shankley-esque tone? He know's he's on borrowed time. Seems low on confidence, for a change.

Starting to see calls for the starfish to be made manager. God, I hope so. From one underqualified, tactially inept moron to another. Gerrard - perfect model of discipline, tactical nous and team spirit. Or not.
He would be player manager and would pick himself even when past it.

Appointing Gerrard would be a momumental slip-up. Too many Kopites been watching Finding Nemo methinks unless they think it appropriate for a PL team to appoint a player-manager.
