I'd also play him on Saturday. I think he's good enough and I think he's a better option than to shoehorn old faithful in a position he's untested in. I also think he probably will play, so all this flanneling we are collectively doing may well be immaterial.

But I think there's a big difference between not thinking he's good enough now and writing him off forever. And if the manager thinks this is too soon, then I can understand that and I'd hope the player would too.
His contract situation does complicate that though along with the fact he is already 3rd choice behind two good internationals who are under 30.

I'm equally happy to see Garbutt given a start as I am to see Hibbo at LB, my concern I suppose is who is going to play on the left wing in front of Garbutt to help him out rather than leaving him isolated, bearing in mind that Barry and McCarthy are both looking likely to miss out so overall defensive cover might not quite be A1.

Kinda leaves us in a situation where we can't do a lot for him then I guess. We are pretty well set in that position and we will have to let a player who will want games go with our blessing.

...I suppose another consideration is if RM thinks/knows Garbutt has no intention of renewing his contract.
If he's not planning on renewing his contract and he is ready to play on merit, then I would think the incentive would be to play him in order to possibly receive a transfer fee in January, rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.

Yes, which probably accounts for a lot of the nervousness.

Yeah that changes everything, look at it from his point of view, Baines and Oviedo ahead of him in the pecking order. Id imagine he would already have signed a new contract already if he was staying..

Viva Antonio Roberto Carlos Hibberto

Unfortunately it does look like that but even if that is the case I'd like for him to get a proper debut at Goodison before he goes. Not just for sentimental reasons, might mean we can get a bit of money for him in Jan.

Anyhow Hibbert may be needed as a RB...

@BenDinnery: @JakeSchindz @FPLAvids The thing is #Coleman IS injured -- stitches in his Achilles

He did play against Scotland but seemed a bit subdued and missed the Irish friendly against USA, perhaps it is troubling him?

....we might accept an offer in January but it's worthless if the player has no intention to go. Indeed, Garbutt might well have a deal lined up with another club for when his contract expires. All conjecture, but his future might be known inside the club.

I think Baines could do a brilliant job on the left wing.

If he goes it will be real shame. Personally I thought he looked by far and away our best youngster in pre-season and I had high hopes for him.

I'm actually surprised we haven't tried that before now.

I'd keep Hibbo as an emergency LB and put Ossie at emergency RB. Garbutt could slot in at emergency CDM with Barry and McCarthy injured and Gibson's tradition of his knee falling off after three games in a month.

A series of emergencies all over the pitch should be the overarching aim.

If Baines and Oviedo are both unable to play if he doesn't play on Saturday then we will also know for sure. Although even if they are both injured and he's going then I still think he'll play.

Wow We really are team held together by sticking tape and plasters.
