Martin Keown & Gary Linekar, always got the impression they both thought they were better than playing for us despite us being champions at the time in the case of Linekar..

Don't understand you saying that about Lineker. When I've seen him interviewed he said that Everton were the best team he played for.

Its also a common misconception that he asked for his move to Barcelona after being the top scorer in the 86 world cup. He was actually happy to stay. Howard Kendall confirmed in an interview on the official site that he decided to sell Lineker before the world cup because he thought the side played better football without him in.

Yes.

I think Andy has suffered through his association with Richard Keys.....the sleazeball's sleazeball.

I went through a period when I practically hated Andy, such was my detestation of Keys during the time they had the programme on talkSPORT.

But Andy's saving grace was how fondly he spoke of Everton and the frequency with which he had boys like Peter Reid, Kevin Ratcliffe, Howard Kendall or big Nev on for a reminisce about his time with us.

I couldn't hate him for long :)

And his reaction to Jags's goal when co-commentating on BT is priceless ;)

Back in 1999, my brother rang me one evening from some hostelry in England, and said he was putting someone on to speak to me.

This lad with a Scottish accent came on and asks me if I know who I am talking to.

I guessed immediately but played dumb. He then asked who was the greatest forward to play for Everton and without hesitation I said Dixie Dean ! He took it well in fairness.

I think when Lineker is saying Everton was the best side he plays for i think he means the ability of the side to play good football, on the pitch and not Everton Football Club as a family. Lineker as a player didnt really win that much, ok the FA Cup with Spurs, maybe he deserved more medals, but those 40 goals in a season was something to be proud of and possibly the highlight of his careear

Everyone is talking hate but I'm going to stick to topic and say who I'm starting to dislike, and it absolutely kills me that its the case- Tim Cahill.
Actually had to unfollow him on twitter and other social media because of the constant self-promotion, attempts at making memes about himself, constantly bigging himself up at every opportunity. I guess its the dark side of social media and getting to see more and more of your idols. Before social media became what it is now I always saw Timmy as hard-working, humble, sweet. Now it's his fashion range, his son's singing and modelling career, blah blah blah. Also the way he went and favorited everyone who tweeted him putting down Osman the other night- really really petty, considering that Osman is a current EFC player and Timmy claims to be such a big fan. Just poor.
So ye. Hurts but Timmy Cahill the person. Timmy Cahill the footballer is still the only player I've ever had on the back of any EFC top I've gotten.

Also Neville and Osman in future. Don't have much hate from earlier. That dissipates with time for me.

Yep agree thats def what he meant - I was replying to someone saying "always got the impression they both thought they were better than playing for us", and thats not the impression I've got from hearing him interviewed. He said, as you correctly point out, that we were the best footballing side he played for and he assumed he was going to play for Everton for some time and was happy to do so. He was actually shipped out by Howard Kendall but alot of people don't realise that.

As a person, not an Everton footballer, I can agree with the sentiment about Tim Cahill. Ignore the DVD about him and sadly, he's very self-centred and egotistical. Shame, cos he played his heart out for the club and was loved for his on-field efforts.

Always seems to me that he talks far more glowingly about Spurs & Leicester (thats fair enough) than us, never hear any warmth in the same vein as when he talks about them, just the impression I get.

Probably 'cos he was only with us one season, and despite scoring 40 goals in 40 games didn't win anything. If he hadn't missed that sitter at Oxford the night the RS won at Leicester, we'd have been champions again.

He missed several sitters that night. One hit Tommy Caton, who was facing the goal at the time, on the top of his bonce and went over the crossbar for a corner. We had enough chances that night to score 10 but couldn't score any.
