Seen AC/DC, Saxon, Mike + The Mechanics (had like 3 Genesis members and did loads of Genesis songs), Judas Priest, Slade, from the older rock bands.

John Lawton lives in Bulgaria and does July Morning here every year.

Was ace them days. Bristol actually attracted top bands back then. Remember The Scorpions, UFO, Girlschool, Maiden, AC/DC, Motorhead, Saxon, Def Leppard, MSG, Waysted, Uriah Heep, The Cult, The Cure, tons of others.

Going to annoy me know trying to remember others.

You're listing like half my favourite bands! I've seen the ones I mentioned all in the last 4-5 years though, Bulgaria is pretty blessed with oldies coming over. Manowar love us.

It's so great, that Scorpions decided to come twice for their "last tour"...

Had tickets for Maiden at Sonisphere, but they pulled out last minute and Saxon, Priest, etc, were in instead.

And same for the annoyance - on that same day I actually saw Slade as well! lol Good times, hoping I'm in Bulgaria next summer and there are some good bands!

Also definitely finding my place in this thread, grown up with classic rock (one of the only good things my dad's done, like, to introduce me to them) and then got into thrash metal, which had it's peak in the 80s and 90s... Older music was boss, very few bands make it like that anymore.

I was/am into things like Rage against the machine, Pantera, Hatebreed, Sepultura etc etc.. A relatively new hardcore band I found a while back called The Gallows are very good.

Give this a whirl.. A few listens through and I was hooked.

Bristol had a venue called The Granary, mainly up and coming rock bands played there. So in those days, pretty much every band played Bristol when they made it big. But in the 60s & 70s, probably every band in England played The Granary. Was superb.

Click on "The Club" tab, and every band that ever played there is listed. Guarantee the list of bands from that era not listed will be quite small.

Nice! I love reading/hearing about stuff like that, Foxy (I think) also had a few stories about the Pistols and all that. Top stuff!

Was a legendary place. Just round the corner there is a pub that is world renowned as a Jazz venue, The Old Duke, in the docks was a boat that had bands on every night as well. Just brilliant for music Bristol was back then.

Bob Dylan Live 1978 Blackbushe Festival - YouTube

The "Picnic" at Blackbushe 1978

Drove down Friday and went to a village boozer near George Harrison's place. After closing time parked up along a road near his place and got the tents out and kipped in some woods.

Stonehenge was brilliant, free festival then on to Glastonbury and bunk in over the fence.

Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end.

The Reading festival throughout the 70s and saw some brilliant bands. Knebworth was huge Stones, Pink Floyd headlining. The Liverpool stadium was the best place in Liverpool to watch bands. Had a really soft spot for Wishbone Ash and saw them at the stadium. Brilliant.
