Looks like Kev is going to be out for a while with his hamstring so IMO I think we need to change formation as he is our best winger and without him I don't feel the 4-2-3-1 works...

With Coleman and Baines getting forward they will supply us with width so I'd go with a 4-3-1-2 or a diamond..

4-3-1-2:
Howard
Coleman Jagielka Stones Baines
McCarthy Besic Barry
Naismith
Eto'o Lukaku

Diamond:
Coleman Jagielka Stones Baines
Barry
McCarthy Pienaar/Oviedo
Naismith
Lukaku Eto'o

The 4-3-1-2 looks good but I would swap Nais for McGeady and play either Eto'o or Nais up top with Rom depending on form/fitness etc.

hopefully pienaar is back soon enough to offset the loss of mirallas...

its also an opportunity for Atsu...

big loss for us though....was thinking in the 2nd half yesterday who we were now playing without most of best attacking players, Barkley Coleman Mirallas Pienaar....take 4 players like that out of any team and they'd struggle....

Everybody knows Diamonds are a girls best friend

....I don't think we can underestimate Barkley's role in RMs ideal team model. 2 defensive central midfielders who rarely cross the halfway line, Barkley can pick the ball up deep with power and pace and quickly turn defence into attack. Without him possession can lack a bit direction. Naismith is great, I really like him but he does his best work in the top third.

Yeah completely different when Ross is fit. I'm talking about now though with this. In three weeks when Ross is back I'd expect Pienaar and Oviedo to be fully fit too which offers us two other wingers with McGeady.

But at the moment Kev and Ross are out and Pienaar and Oviedo aren't match fit yet which leaves us with McGeady and Atsu as wingers..

Yes....what we lacked yesterday was a driving force.

Shorn of both Ross and Seamus, we were sadly lacking one when we needed to quickly turn defence into attack.

Naisy tried his best but his attempts at bringing Rom into the action from wide right were poor for the most part.

Naismith and his form has really lessened the loss of barkley. However they play the No.10 role in completely different ways.

Can't wait to have ross back and with mirallas now injured we gonna need him ASAP.

...he has got sufficient wide cover and this is the reason he brought Atsu in. Much will depend on who we are up against. It might be that players he only wanted to play on Thursday will now be involved on Sunday. The fear I have with going in with yesterdays formation against United is that they have more teeth up front than the reds. We might need to score a couple to get anything.

Well it's certainly a pause for thought as Eto made a great impact when he came on yesterday and Stones was rock solid as always.

The main thing at the moment is to get Eto'o on the pitch as much as possible. All our creative players are now injured, so he needs to step into that role, especially if we're going to play with no one wide. Either of your nice little formations would be decent and it will make a huge difference when Pienaar's back. Personally I hate playing with a flat three in midfield, we just don't have the players to do it effectively, but with the injuries there isn't much choice.
