Well he's hardly Paolo Maldini now, is he? If his best attributes are throwing himself in front of the ball and making last-ditch tackles, rather than having a cool head and being composed on the ball, I'd describe him as more of a yard dog than a fine ball-playing centre back.

As a coach do you think he would be better suited to la liga where its played at a different tempo.
He does come across too nice and dare I say it not strong enough but like you say maybe he is different away from the media.

No mate. He had them moving the ball about last season fine. They had real zip in the passing and that's missing this year - principally because we have a back line so ponderous and lacking in confidence. Barkley is also key to this. We lack pace and power without him.

I'd shift Mirallas into the void left by Barkley. I realise that the Naismith cult would look on that dimly, but to me he's always a second striker and he's about as useful as a chocolate fire guard to us in an acm position.

Put McGeady on the left and atsu right....or even Lukaku on the right and Eto'o as the forward.
