I don't think it's as simplistic as that. There are a lot of well educated, very well qualified people who have to fight the official narrative to get those points across.
As long as something is labelled as a conspiracy it forms an immediate opinion in the minds of most. Yet, by definition, the official report into 9-11 is a conspiracy.
One of the biggest elements fuelling the search for answers is the video footage from the Pentagon. Many eyewitnesses testified that it wasn't a plane that hit it but a rocket. The US government have only released piecemeal footage so far, when the entire video could debunk the 'conspiracy', so why not release it? They've said they have it.
The Pentagon explanation, when you see the pictures, defies physics, the 'plane' had to fold up completely and leave a small hole without breaking windows or leaving a scorch mark on the grass in front.
As has been quoted elsewhere, that duck don't hunt...
So I would reckon on the whole these 'theorists' are more frustrated with those who haven't delved into the possibilities than being patronising or self righteous.
