One more CL medal.

The rest is just trading national titles off. It's not conclusive.

In any case, it's the player's abilities rather than the medals they won. Eto'o is a finisher. That's what you get. Rooney has been one of the best all round attacking players in Europe for 5/6 seasons. He pulled United practically single handedly over the line for years.
Eto'o has won 2 with barca and one with inter. How many has rooney won?

CL that is.

So lets get this right, he was a non-stop success train up until leaving Inter Milan for Russia and the most lucrative contract in the game. 6 months in and the Russian club's chairman decides to get his money back & sell all the clubs assets. Chel$ea pick him up, give him a decent amount of rest ready for him to get back to his best with us.

Turned out nice again.
I think if he never went to Russia this whole 'he's ancient and past it' bollocks would be much diminished. Ibra isn't much younger and no one says he's too old. But Russia/China/America/middle east is where washed up superstars go to get one last payday so our Sam is unfairly tagged with this label.

Im sorry Rooney in his prime was a world class footballer but there are many (me included) that think he didn't quite fulfil the potential that he showed with us and during Euro 2004. But Eto is one of the best strikers of the modern era, in his prime for Barca he was arguably the best finisher in world football. He could score and create goals for himself with lightening speed.

That's not even a matter for debate, imo.

How on earth could anyone think Eto'o the better player? He's one dimensional compared with Rooney.

Dont let Rooney's current form cloud your opinion.
Rooney must be one of the biggest disappointments in world football. Promised so much but delivered so little.
Eto'o on the other hand......

By all accounts hes a model pro mate, fact mourinho brought him to chelsea after having him at milan should highlight his character, as for you thinking rooney was better than him at both their peaks, your wrong mate, eto'o at his peak was one of the top 2 natural goalscorers rooney wasnt, plus eto'os overall play was better (barca especially), and whilst the both won the champs league, eto'o achieved it 3 times with 2 clubs
I respect your opinion, but it's wrong. Eto'o was/is a great finisher, won lots of stuff. But he could never influence a game from anywhere on the pitch like Rooney could.

Rooney 'wasn't a natural goalscorer'. You need to reassess that. 217 goals for United. The feller was a goal machine.

Rooney of 2005-2011 was world class. No doubt. Maybe not on the international stage, but at club level, definitely. But, he's been at the top for 12 years now. And I mean the very top, and he's burnt-out. I'd still take him like

On loan

Zlatan is still spoken of as one of the top players in the world, and he's 6 months younger than Eto'o.

Eto'o was so much more than just a goalscorer, I don't really understand what you've done with your usually sound judgement. Nothing against 'our Wayne' but Eto'o at Malaga/Barca was on the next level

BTW, putting Eto'o pomp v Rooney pomp aside; the original assertion was Rooney at 17 trumps Eto'o at 33 in an Everton shirt.

Anyone who thinks the former wouldn't have slotted in and pulled this present Everton team to heights greater than what Eto'o is presently capable of achieving for us needs sectioning.
