They don't scare me. Welcome to Goodison, rent boys.

They're a good team, but so are we.
now that I've finished (mostly ffs) fuming at how we switched off and dropped those 2 today and 2 at Leicester, I can go back to being happy at how we dominated Arsenal in a game of Football, could have had a few pens, and played some wonderful stuff. We can get the win against Chelsea.

Having just arrived home after a long day and having reached the point where another swig of lager would make me projectile vomit, i can only imagine that the meltfest is in full flow here. Relax, we're all disappointed but we'll just have earn our first win of the season against those posh bunch of deformities again this season. Chelsea come on down...
cue a 93rd minute equalizer

At first it was frucking infuriating.

Though rationally we were lucky to take a point the way we totally switched off in the second half yet again. I mean ffs Everton. A game is 90+ minutes, not 45
After a lot of ale and reflection, this is sort of my thoughts. Its a bit worrisome that there is NO urgency whatsoever to take the impetus in the second half and go for the throat thus far. What exactly is Martinez's half time talk, the same as Moyes? They go and look to sit back to absorb the pressure in the second half and that, in no way/shape/form, works for this team. They become unglued.

For large parts of the First 65/70 minutes we looked a class above Arsenal, you wouldn't of known which squad had three world cup winners, as the second half wore on you could see us gradually surrender Arsenals half of the pitch to them. Yesterday Lecister held Chelsea for Ages, however Chelsea didn't panic, and put a false headline on the score,Southampton should of taken a point off the RS however they kicked on a secured the result, just as Arsenal did against Palace. City were also struggling to beat Newcastle but dug in and pulled off the win.Until we devolp this knack of pulling off hard fought victories we will never be in the top four .Our first 14/15 is good enough to go toe to toe with any of the teams in this league, however throw in our weakness of defending set pieces and unwillingless to boot the ball out from the back when in doubt, and poor substitutions we seem to keep shooting ourselves in the foot. If Chelsea,City or even Man United in their sorry state would of held onto a 2-0 lead against Arsenal at home with 15 mins to go.

The thing that worries me is not that we're letting in goals (that's going to happen to every team) but how easy the goals are. We had 4 people in the box against 1 Arsenal player and we let them score. Then Distin gets out muscled and lets the second in. If both goals were amazing well worked or great shot goals then I'd be ok but with them given so easily it worries me that we're going to do this every game.

This annoyed me too! We conceeded two Stoke standard goals to Arsenal, I dont think our defence was split open from a blistering pass once, yet we conceed two school boy goals, like the way Arsenal attacked we could of played two youth players at centre back and provided they knew how to head a ball properly we would of won 2-1 atleast.

In a thread a week or so ago I was pilloried for saying that, despite having conceded fewer goals than all but two teams last season, we were not good defensively. Essentially I was pointing out that because we have so much possession there is relatively little defending required but that whenever we do come under a period of concerted pressure we concede. The two games played so far this season only serve to back up my original post. We should be able to take our foot off the gas and still hold onto winning positions, but we're not defensively strong enough. In particular we need a Dave Watson-type CB who's going to take it as a personal insult if he's beaten to any ball played into the box.

I think it was just too early in the season for us against a quality team who are ahead of us fitness/match sharpness wise given there CL involvement and charity shield excursions.

We handled them fine, even second half but at around 70 mins you just saw the energy drain out of the team. By 77 mins we were knackered. And Roberto didn't have enough subs to replace all the tired legs out there.

If that game and scenario had happened a month down the line we would of held out for the win, I have no doubt!

Get something against Chelsea next weekend, draw or win, and we'v got the same points total as last season after 3 games. But will have 2 title challangers out of the way early doors!

You were probably slated because you simply can't help yourself in being a negative git. Only guessing here...I generally swerve things you post.

With all due respect and a warm welcome to all those Gunners who have been contributing to this thread and seem a decent bunch of lads, I have to mention how incredibly annoying so many of the "posting" Arsenal fans are. Jesus, they are absolutely insufferable on the Guardian (to cite just one instance). Their master's voice to a tee: trotting out the tired cliches about Everton's "physicality"; endless iterations of the fact that Naismith was "miles offside," poor refereeing (or "officiating" as these educated Gunners like to term it). Jesus wept. Quit moaning and display some self-awareness. You lot were lucky to get out of there with a draw today. Yes, we folded, but you were s**** for most of the game. The ref, the offside, the officiating, physicality, etc had little to do do with it. Sometimes you are just crap and lucky. Get over yourselves. Drawing that game is hard enough without having to read endless delusional Gunners convincing themselves that they would have won it if the entire corrupt universe wasn't conspiring to destroy their beautiful football [and yes Barca is their "second" team] (Fume over)

This. We need a CB leader. (and I wish Howard would command his box better).
