Darron Gibson

I'm sure at some point we'll see GIBBO and BESIC together, which is the most interesting partnership as they're both snides who can play a bit. hard to imagine them displacing McCarthy long term though. Nice problem to have after seeing us looking soft as a fresh turd in CM since Carsley left.

Gibbo isn't no snide, more of a heart on sleeve player. Snide is being dirty/desruptive and generally getting away with it. The top teams are like this 1-11, plus the manager

Annoys me the way Gibson is automatically worse than Besic or 4th choice centre mid just because Besic has come in. Besic looks a player but until he proves himself to be better than Gibson Gibson should be put in ahead of Besic if we were to play 4-3-3.

Gibson is a good player who when fit provides us a good option and it is a squad game. I do believe he and Besic will be the CM partnership for Cup/europe games if he can stay fit.

But he isn't that reliable purely because of the fact he has so many different niggling injuries.

Didn't know that, get well soon Darron.

So does Barkleberry mate.
Barkley is a lot less injured than Gibson though. Barkley has only had the broken leg, before he was a first team member, and this ligament injury since he became one.

The fact he has played more games than Gibson, with only being a proper first team member for one year says it all really mate.

Gibson is the vision, about play going forward and with players to hit with pace he'll be the one to expose weakness in backlines. The issue is always going to be his injury record, we got Jags back seemingly unscathed, Arteta perhaps less so, and we had to write Yakubu off. Serious injury maybe more treatable now compared to back in the day when it wrote Parkinson off, but it massively curtails a career.
Gibson for us and Ireland is a player and with a differing dimension to rotate in and out for Barry we'll be much better off - City nackers yarded Barry because of extreme wages and being unable to run for them like Yaya could. Some crime.
It has been a long time since we have had such wide player options (Pienaar, McGeady, Mirallas, Oviedo, Atsu) and suddenly our outlook over so many "cloggers" battling the middle has turned into a perceived paucity.

We have a blend of a couple of sides in the ranks, perhaps that is what Martinez has aimed at, Barca through the middle, mid 90's United on the flanks. It's probably not quite so effective, but having one world class player to realise it is a step let alone 2 or 3.

Lets see what Kone can bring to the side, same with Gibson, it'll take months for them to get genuinely game sharp, and no doubt we'll be on the end of results like the weekend or last season in the same fixture where Norwich raised Lazarus.

Call it faith, belief, karma, or want. It's there to be had.

Barkley was out for a while around last January too wasn't he?

I get your point on Gibson but before last season he did sporadically miss games, but his lack of appearance is down to not making the first team at United rather than injuries. Who knows? Maybe his luck is gonna turn for the better, rather than be another Norman Whiteside.

If he can get a prolonged run of games then he's as good as any centre mid we have at the club.
