I haven't done the exercise, but I wonder how many of the club badges WITHOUT their name we could identify on sight.

It's probably not you that the marketing is aimed at. A better start may be taking teams from leagues you don't follow and identifying teams by logo there.

But looking at more large teams: Bayern Munich, Ajax, Juventus also provide the full name

Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmond, and Manchester City abbreviate the name

... and every single one of them has incorporated the initials.

It's increasingly rare that a club will forego immediate brand identity with the logo. When they do, it's because they're promoting the imagery of an animal like Wolves or Norwich (the Canaries) as a primary point of reference. Even the established ones that have nothing, like Atletico Madrid, would almost certainly include the name in any redesign.

I thought the S and L might give it away, but for those that don't know it's,
Drum roll please........

Standard Liège

Or to give them their full name

Royal Standard Liege. Hence the crown on the badge

I thank you

FFS can't the club get anything right

If they didn't want to fork out the couple of hundred quid it would've cost for a new paint job, they could've made a slightly bigger badge to cover the marks from previous badges. It's now tacky as fook. Idiots, absolute idiots running the club from top to bottom behind the scenes. Any one one of us could've made a better job than that, even the blind ones amongst us
