Sheedy on Moyes

Its not hard to spot the kids with talent. The hard part is getting them to mentally cope with the talent, and work harder to improve.

Deadline day at good cost - incurring the wrath of many fans for it. He was never going to be in the first team last season.

/Sigh...

I'm not saying he should have played last season, but do not use stones as a defense when you have NO idea he would have played this season. And going by Moyes' track record it would be unlikely he would have been involved as he has been.

As for your 'sigh' he was forced to play him because he had no other options.. so please do not try to belittle what i said.

He bought stones, never played him and wouldnt have played him as much, he held coleman back by at least two seasons

Disagree. Signed in January 2009, a quick loan and nasty pre-season injury and made 40 appearances in 2010–11 and an ever present since. Check those appearances: http://www.evertonfc.com/player-profile/seamus-coleman

Not bad when you consider the level he was playing at before we signed him.

There are plenty of sticks to hit Moyes with if you must, his handling of youth isn't high on that list. In ten years, none have left the academy an excelled elsewhere. The same can't be said prior to that - when Baines, Jagielka and plenty of others left...

Not many for 10 years?

Did you enjoy Seamus Coleman's winner at the weekend? How about John Stone's performance?

Moyes give them a chance (buying Stones when he did), no?

Coleman was bought by Moyes, not brought through the ranks.
Stones was bought by Moyes in January but didn't make his debut until Martinez was in charge.

The only Everton youth team players that Moyes properly gave a chance to in 11 years were Rooney, Osman, Anichebe, Vaughan and Rodwell.

Not counting Hibbert as he was already a first team regular, making his debut under Smith a year earlier.

5 players in 11 years (1 sold after just 2 years) isn't very good.

Would he have been in that position at that stage of the game though ?
Or be the highest scoring defender in the prem ?

Probably have been subbed off for abandoning the Park end corner flag, along with anyone forward thinking so as to preserve the point, 65 mins & 70 being the most likely times.

Similarly Oviedo at O.T. ?

Some of the things seem to suggest that he also didn't have much to do with our scouting system outside of the 1st team either, as in the way players were brought in and then not brought through, probably only used to have Vellios on the bench cos his daughter had a thing for him.

Let go of him mate, join the queue and put yer preds on, it's like Alton Towers at the mo, as soon as you've had a go you race back to join the line again.

I swerve Twitter but in general I think certain people are being too sensitive here. It's not like he had a pop at Moyes' wife or something -- he stated what (in his mind) is a fact: Moyes didn't care that much about the youth setup.

These moments of candor are somewhat rare and we all get excited but I'm not 100% sure it's a bad thing to have people speak their mind now and again.

Whether I personally am "offended" or think it's "unprofessional" pales in comparison to my hatred of the media's eagerness to finger point and blow out of proportion anything interesting anyone ever says.

We need more interesting people saying interesting and honest things; less media bores making people feel shame for speaking their mind.

Nice one Sheeds.

By the way, how did Moyes give right back Coleman his big debut?

By playing him at left back (completely out of position, and in a position he's never played in since) away at Benfica, where we got beat 5-0.

Ace management that.

perhaps cos not enough effort was being put into the academy?
also i dont think jagielka ever played for our academy, just the u-14 team

Which you could say Moyes helped instill that mental side of things with a fair few of our players. Coleman has kicked on and become one of the best fullbacks in the league. Has Moyes handled him perfectly or did Coleman do it in spite of Moyes? Barkley is clearly incredibly gifted but even Martinez doesn't trust him with the responsibility of defensive work of a centre mid place just yet. Awful lot of people seem to want to kick Moyes now he's down but not all he did was bad and it's matter of opinion whether or not he did right by youth players.

I agree with you, Moyes was ok with the kids, kind of his job. But his cautious nature will mean at times, he wont 'risk' the kids, and would plimp for older/wiser heads.

Its not like we can name 5 or 6 players that were chomping at the bit to get into our first team !!!
