The Journos getting worried about Everton challenging the Top 4 Thread

Gibson, Kone, Barca lid.

Granted, thats not a long injury list, but we have lost our back up striker and back up CM for an entire season.

Those first 2 injuries happened months ago, and the Barca kid has started 2 league games, and we're still 2 points off the top.

Can you not see how threadbare centre midfield is or either wing or upfront?

I must be seeing a different squad, as we have tons of midfield options.

Threadbare is the last word I'd use to describe our squad.

Pienaar, Osman, McCarthy, Barry, Barkley, Mirallas, Naismith, Deulofeu. Plus Gibson when fit.

9 midfielders right there. Possibly a 10th if you include Oviedo as a left wing option.

Teams that have threadbare squads aren't in our position at Christmas, the season would have already taken its toll.

If Gibson was fit then I'd say we'd be okay until the end of the season CM wise. Having Osman as the back-up option or dropping Barkley further back isn't ideal.

Same with the striker situation. 3 senior strikers is plenty for a team that plays with 1 up front. The trouble is one of them is terrible and the other is injured (waits for: Is Jelavic injured?).

That's a misleading list.

Osman and Naismith aren't top 4 material. Impact subs sure but not starting week in week out. There's also only two proper central midfielders in that entire list of 9. Most of the players you listed are attacking midfielders or wingers. If McCarthy or Barry gets a long term injury we look light in the middle very quickly.

Gibson isn't worth mentioning because for all intents and purposes he's not a part of this year's squad.

Fact is, we'll see what Martinez and this squad is made of really if we have an injury crisis. If, for example, Barkley is pushed back into CM and/ Osman, Naismith or one of our under 21 players is needed for an extended spell. I'd like to think that Osman and Naismith are going to be our modern version of Richardson and Harper.

Have to admit that Moyes always earned his corn when we had injuries under his tenure.

All that Moyes did was moan about have no bench and admit defeat before the game.

Re the Moyes article:

In it were aspects of revisionism that revealed a distinct 'Man U-ophilic' bias and one does not need to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce that.
It is a little sad that Moyes has engendered a lot of bad blood subsequent to his new appointment. He definitely did a lot of good things for Everton (including playing some fine football...particularly last season) and I initially wished him well . However, his condescending attitude, actions and words once he moved to OT, totally evaporated the goodwill I felt toward him.
I don't actively dislike him mind, I just no longer like him. To me he's just a manager at a competing PL club (like 18 others out there). I don't jeer those 18 managers, and I won't jeer Moyes. I'll just actively support our present manager. Simple stuff really.

An old addage of journalism states

''Dog bites man'' is not news

''Man bites dog'' is news.

As I said earlier, I couldn't care less if they say ''Everton won't win the league''. The fact they get paid good money to do so is a tad annoying though.

What's the old quote? : "News is something important people don't want to be made public. All the rest is just advertising"

Osman & Naismith aren't starters tho. They are used as impact subs now.

It's all ifs and buts. I'm firmly of the belief our squad is nowhere near as weak as some of the critics make out.

It's the strongest squad we've had in years.

I think any team that challenges has to be lucky with injuries, regardless of riches or squad size.

What if Suarez breaks his leg?
What if Ozil or Ramsey are ruled out for months?
What if Aguero gets crocked? Or RVP/Rooney?

Yeah a bigger squad is a help, but I reckon we'll be fine.

Just shows, in the Radio Times for MOTD tomorrow night the games to be featured are Man City v Liverpool, Hull V Man U , and of course the Asrsenal game.(n) No mention of the team in 4th spot.

It's by far the weakest of the teams we're challenging with. Pretty much one option up front, which is ridiculous and it's not fair on Lukaku.

Midfield is one more injury/suspension from Naismith being a regular. Fair enough, he tries his best but he isn't catapulting us towards the top 4.

Hah. sorry forgot that after their one point now above us on GD, damn. Still proves point with the TV and papers not to mention radio who their faves are.

Thanks once again Danny.
