What a trifecta that would have made for this NZ based Evertonian!! The Kiwis and the All Blacks both won in the very last seconds....and Everton was SO close to doing the same. My voice is almost gone this Monday!

I couldn't have been much more wrong about this fella. I thought, when he was at Wigan, he was passive and Rodwell-like in his game, both with and without the ball and may not have enough competitive edge to his character.

Since he's joined he's been haring around, flying into tackles all over the shop, making his opinions known to the ref (seems to have been in every pic of the ref from saturday) and what I seem to have mistaken for passiveness and being too "nice" is actually just understated, blunt, dry, NEA, ace Scottish-ness, seen below:

Just watching a bit of the game back. Suarez doing all sorts of arm waving about a Coleman tackle on Gerrard and you can clearly make out McCarthy look him in the eye and say '[Poor language removed] off you [Poor language removed]', great stuff.

Seems he's not flashy but he gets the job done and also takes no sh*t from the sh*te. Another player that's gone up in my estimation this season and especially on saturday.

Very good signing IMO. Was never against getting him but did think we should perhaps of been getting better. Supprised by his other side of the game, the roughness, the workrate etc... Every succesfull team needs those types he's also very comftable on the ball, only just 23 and maybe a little suprisingly has a winning mentality.

Gonna be a important cogg in the team over the coming years.

Considering people were 'concerned' that he was a Wigan player, he's done ok so far. And with Barry, who I hope we can bag on a free (pre-contract in January?), they make more than a decent fist of it.

I have always been impressed with him and was made up when we signed him. I thought he matched toure in the cup final and was by far the best player at wigan.

I was quite annoyed that we spent so much money on him. Since about his second or third game, i've changed my mind completely. Exactly what we need. Young player who will only get better and gets stuck in. Constant energy from him as well. Him and Barry have been excellent together.

...bit like I have said about Roberto from before day 1. Midway through last season I texted my brother in Barcelona and said "this Martinez fella looks sound". The rest is history. Everton is on the march

McCarthy falls over loads and gives the ball away, turns backwards when in possession as often as possible and seemingly has banana feet under pressure.

Room for improvement defo haha! He's only young but I'm less than impressed by him. Hopefully this season will sort him out.

The lids got a l;ot of character and a big will to win. He's got enough snide in him for me to grow to love him too.

I'm NEA he doesn't pass forwards.
