Do we need a new striker?

Hasn't there already been a three page discussion on who might be available?

They are two different subjects. It is better to keep discussion regarding each of these, separately. I'm not sure why you can't see that, Robin. You don't strike me as particularly lacking in the brains department. If the moderators deem this thread inappropriate they will merge it with the other.

well maybe this will encourage Kenwright to invest abit more?

Well...Podolski and Love are the main rumours, but seeing as we made an Offer for Smith and an offer for Owen on the last day of the transfer window (ruined by Keegan!!), i wouldnt be surprised for a bid for one of them, most likely Smith, and they would both cost about £3-4 million under Ashley.

Our best option is a loan, but who can we loan?!

When is Saha out til? Vaughan is back in Jan, allegedly. Anichebe has his chance now.

We'll end up with another striker on loan in Jan.

According to the OS Vaughan is expected to return in early 2009. Which could be any time through March.
Not that he's exactly a prolific scorer anyway.

tbh i think we'll be in for Owen in Jan, but remember, Duncan offered to play for free, we can't go far wrong with that

Can see Moyes going back to his good buddies Sir Alex and Mourinho and getting in someone on loan - Manucho from Utd or whilst Obinna probably still won't get a work permit, Crespo for one can't get a game for Inter!...

Steven Fletcher from Hibs is a cracking young player more in our price range and is half Scouse as well.

We need someone, odds of Saha being fit for even 75% of the rest of the season are pretty slim, Vaughan's not much better. Anichebe and Cahill will do a job for now, but we'll need some reinforcements for sure - unless Mr. Moyes reckons Jutkiewicz, Baxter or Agard are ready to step up...

Joy, silly season's come early this year!...

Mate told me SSN says Saha is out for 7 weeks.

I pray to christ we've got a superstar in the making with Baxter, Jukebox or Anichebe for a month.

I am trying to think over some realistic (loans) possibilites, but it's not easy. Nikola Zigic is probably the best one I can think of, he's still not playing for Valencia, don't see a reason why loan wouldn't be possible in this case...
But even if it would happen, we still have to survive until January...

Zigic hasnt really got the mobility to play up front on his own mate. He would be more suited at Stoke.

I don't agree. He was basically playing alone for Santander, which was his best season ever on european stage. His partner there was Pedro Munitis, who is much more of a second striker/winger, but Zigic was quite aften isolated.
The only big weakness of player like him is unability to play succesfull counter attack game, but for example with games like today at WHL, he would fits very nicely IMHO.

It's time for "The Vic" to step up. He's looked bright this season but now we are going to see what he's really about. It'll be hard for him but I'm sure he can fill in.

Hopefully the experienced players give him the support he needs. In "The Vic" we trust.

Fair enough, every time Ive seen him he's reminded me of a fat, sexier Brett Angel.

We could do worse for our money though, missing out Militio was a blow.
Probably we are looking at things differently - I personally don't believe you need a mobility of your Target Man if you are playing one up-front. For me it's more about a midfielder support he gets in this situation, his skills in linking up plays and holding up the ball. I also believe that our players can provide adequate help.

Only clear weakness is that counter attack game is really limited then. But we could use Anichebe for situation like this...
