Baines.....or ?

His game doesn't rely on pace, plus he is NEVER injured; he'll be good until 33/34 at LEAST imo. And with that in mind, we have to keep him regardless of the bid. And in any case, United wouldn't pay 20m, I don't think.

It's ace to think we have the two stand out full backs in the entire league. :)

We all know what happened the last time we sold a world class player... 12 years plus in the wilderness. (end 1971-1984) - Alan Ball.

* yeah ok, Rooney but he wasn't the finished article by any means.

Said it in another thread but i reckon if he was going it would have happened by now. New era under Martinez and it's looking good at the moment, January would be a weird time to leave and i doubt we'd let him anyway.

20 million? Would Ashley Cole have gone for the equivalent when he was 29? No - I'd expect a bit more for the world's best left back. Let's start at 27.5 million. Leighton is a brilliant pro and a decent fella it seems, and I love him in our team and associated with Everton. However, if he wants to go and play Champs ... sorry .... Runners Up League (let's say it how it is), and if the money's right, we'd be daft not to accept a big sum for any player. They won't play for ever. If we run all of our players into retirement, we're passing over an important revenue stream.

Thing is when setting a player's price, you have to take their wages into consideration to determine what the rest of their contract would have paid out, and as we all know we ain't got a pot to pee in, our players make considerably less than moneybags clubs, and therefore the "contract buyout" cost is nowhere near as high.

By far our best set piece taker.
True left backs are harder to find than most other positions.
Moyes is a disrespectful tool.

These reasons are why we should keep him.

I'm all for trying to buy Lukaku or even Benteke if Lukaku's not interested or too expensive.

We received 28m for Fellaini and 6m for Anichebe 2 months ago, my maths isn't great bit I think that's 33m. We spent just 13m of that on McCarthy, plus maybe a few mil on the loans of Barry and Lukaku, why on earth do we even need to sell anyone or has the millions left over already disappeared as usual? I'll fume if no permanent signings are made with this money in Jan. Even using conservative calculations Martinez should have around 12/15m to play with

Wheres the new contract Baines was meant to be getting?

That's what I was wondering, worries me a bit tbh because in a recent interview Martinez said it wasn't on the agenda right now (a new contract for Baines). Surely we need to be throwing a 5-year top earner deal at him? Get all the speculation finished before it even begins, as we know for sure as soon as the January window opens he'll be in the papers every day and if United come calling he'll likely be sold.

We do not know what is on Baines mind, does he want to leave or not.

If our EX comes calling he should be told our valuation is X amount, not open to offer, take it or leave it and cash only.

Amount IMO should be 20 mill plus.

...Martinez also said that the club wouldn't keep players who want to move. According to 'ceefax' Stubbs, Baines wants the Man Utd move. My theory is that he's agreed to stay for a period (probably to the end of the season) when he'll be allowed to negotiate a favourable deal for him, e.g. not a mega-huge fee but a large signing-on bunce. This would explain why no contract talks.

This is getting tedious.

The club have made it admirably clear that Baines is not for sale. Moyes's offers have been treated with the contempt they deserve. Moyes himself has admitted that Baines is no longer an option for him.

Is it that hard to assume that the player will be staying with us at the very least beyond the January transfer window ?
