We haven't got a game until next Monday, there was no necessity to rotate at all.

You play a total of 5 rounds to get to the final ffs, it's not like we'd be playing every midweek for months on end.

In any case, we're not going to get into Europe via the league this season, I think most of us have already accepted that, so why not push for the LC this season?

He made the wrong call last night imo, simple as that. It has no bearing on my thoughts on him, I'm just a bit disappointed that he didn't see what I consider to be the obvious...

I can see where you're coming from, but the part in bold is the same negative attitude that means we don't do well in the Cups. Why can't we qualify for Europe via the league this season? A top 6 place usually gets you in Europe, unless one of the top teams doesn't win the League or FA Cup, which rarely happens.

We can definitely get in to Europe via the league in my opinion. We have a better team than Liverpool so I don't see why we can't come at least 6th again.

I agree on the bit about not needing to rotate though. Why do players like Baines or Mirallas need to be rotated? Baines is one of our best players and is capable of playing nearly every game, so why not play him? If he wanted Oviedo on he could have played him at left wing.

Happens more often than it doesn't, I think.

And why exactly were we resting players a full six days before a home game against Newcastle?

If you want to rotate players or get them game time, you make two or three changes then bring some more on as subs if possible. What was it, eight changes last night?

Eh?!?! we are not rotating to give the players a rest, we are giving minutes to people who we WILL need as the season progresses and therefore need to gain sharpness ONLY obtained through playing competitive game.

Lets say he had played our best 11, and a day before the game against Newcastle we have flu going through the squad. He would have to throw Darron Gibson for example, into the game with NO minutes under his belt since the injury.

Gareth Barry cant play against City, we need his replacement - Gibson - to have some playing time

Bryan Oviedo - needs minutes
Heitinga & Stones - what if Distin/Jags get injured? Same point as above

This point was even highlighted by RM in his post-match interview!!!!!

That was covered by the second part of my post. You don't make 8 changes to a side as it disrupts any momentum a winning side has.

If players need minutes, pick the three most important ones and bring them in. Then, when your almost full strength side has the game under control, bring another three on as subs.

Team selection and substitutions cost us yesterday, as much as poor performances.

Bringing on two defensive subs when we're 2-1 down was odd, like.

I could understand at 1-1 when he originally planned to make the change. I'd still have brought Barry on after they scored as we were being overrun in midfield. Soon as they scored though, Jagielka should have been sat back down.
