Jamo Martinez

Player Valuation: £70m
Pretty soon after moving to the centre of the defence, started winning over the fans. Obviously I don't see as many games as most of you but he's always a candidate for man of the match on this forum. Talking of the calender year 2008, He'd seem to be the main candidate for player of the year. Thoughts

Jagielka has this seasons Player of the year in the bag already for me. He's our best defender by a mile.

Quality player...

Of the 2008 year i would say yes. Definatly.

From December last year to know he hasnt made many mistakes. He has pushed the likes of Yobo/Lescott and Baines out of the team on some fixtures. He is Mr Consistent, and not only consistent, but consistently great. Its almost as if he has supported Everton his whole life, and puts everything he has to keep the ball from going in that net.

He is the only player who i would say is teh player of the year. Other players havnt been consistent enough. Yakubu since January has been great, but in recent months not too good. Same story with Howard, been great, but a bad start to the season.

Not only player of the year, but he has probably guaranteed player of the season already...

...My updated version of him on Footy Manager:

He does what he's supposed to do every week. I've no reason to say anything negative about Jags, which cannot be said about any other EFC player. He's most certainly favourite to be player of the season.

Only your 'updated' version :)

People say Lescott is worht more than £10 million. But Jagielka is a much better defender. If a club came in with an offer of £9 million or less i would laugh...and laugh...and laugh...and tell them to [Poor language removed] off.

Lescott isn't worth that much tho is he, he just supposedly was cos he was hyped up and playing really well. The only way we'd get 10mil for either Jags or Lescott is if Man United bought them. Hardly any centre backs are worth anything, it's a really difficult position to justify value for money.

Lescott's a left back though mate, he's good both defensively and going forward. He's an all rounder and because of his all round play he's got alot of plaudits.

Jags is an excellent centre back but he's not very flashy. He's not someone who's going to standout despite being consistent. Excellent player but I doubt we'd get anything over 7/8 million for him.

I doubt we would get any sort of money for either, nobody admires them as much as WE do. I value both players very highly. But i think your spot on, we wouldnt get anything like their value. Jags isnt classy like Rio and he doesnt have the raw strength that Vidic does, i think hes more of a John Terry and I rate them both the same as those 3 players.

The thing that should improve fees is the fact that both players can play in a few postions, this is why Lescott wants to be seen as just as CB, cos when you can play a number of postions you are regarded as a versatile player. And he wants to be regarded as a top class CB.

If both players maintain the level they are at, i mean taking into account that Lescott isnt playing really that well at the moment, i think in a few years they will either be at a top 4 club or hopefull looked upon as the best CB partnership in the prem.

Also i read the pink Echo today, 1st time in ages, little piece in it about Bainesy, Moyes saying he wants to play him, but he just cant break up his succesful back 4, said that Baines was being a good sport about it all, lets hope it continues.

It also said he wanted to loan Vaughan out, but couldnt really cos we was short on numbers, just simply so the lad can get some games.

I just realised why I don't like Joleon as much as I should. I always think he looks a bit untidy on the ball, as if he's never got it under control. He just looks all over the place sometimes, like he's got no coordination.

It's cos he wears long sleeved shirts. If you're gonna wear long sleeved, you have to be small, especially as a centre back. I mean, just look at this:

Compared to:

Keep him in short sleeves then. we'll get 20 million for him

Can't argue with him being our best player of 2008. I can't remember too many bad games from him this year and time after time he's come to our rescue. If his distribution was a little better he'd be an England shoe in.

I think he's been our player of the season so far.

Wouldn't mind Yakubu or Saha giving him a run for his money though.

Or even Arteta.
