Arsenal vs Everton

Just finished watching the game on Spanish TV (taped obviously). Knowing the score before hand didn't help my disposition much and I lost a bit of interest in the second half. Especially seeing us defending so deep as usual against the top 4 teams when they have the ball. Fact is, lots of previous posters have said it and I have to agaree, There are some positives. Fellaini, while not being the finished article, looks like a good signing to me. Rodwell doesn't look atall out of place in the Prem. I've only seen him on telly and it may be just me, but he seems quite vocal and not afraid to tell older players what to do (or what not to do). could be captain material in a very short time. Just pissed off with the repeat of the games two weeks ago. start off winning and just got one point to show from the 2 games while the rs start off losing and end up winning yet again. Jammy bastards.

Agree with most of what you except Fellaini and Jags. Fellaini is still adapting, but you can see the talent. His passing is good, he does the simple stuff great and boy can he head a ball. Having watch extended highlights of Belgium - Spain in midweek it was clear to see that we have bought one hell of a player - he has it all!
Jags is playing with his heart on his sleeve and his handling of Adebeyor was good, it was once again Lescott that let us down in defense.

Maybe, I couldn't work out who was at fault because 3 times in the 1st half the striker walked between them and latched onto the long ball. Howard bailed us out on one occasion.

Fellaini, wins the headers and knocks it down well. For me, he gave it away too many times, wanted too much time on the ball and got caught in posession a lot, a lot of improvement needed from him.

I've got to say I disagree with alot of your post. Fellaini looked good to me and Howard did nothing wrong.

Yakubu scored 21 goals playing upfront on his own last season.

he had support, there was no one what so ever supporting him today. in a 4-4-1-1 he gets the job done, straight forward 4-5-1 he looks lost.

There isn't a striker in the world who can play upfront on his own without support. So really he can play as the lone striker but he needs support like anyone else would.

I thought he did an excellent job in the first half, him and Fellaini where holding the ball up and bringing us into the game. Second half we just hoofed so he couldn't really do anything.

MY summary of the game was that Arsenal were [Poor language removed] in the 1st half and boss in the second.

They were boss in the second because we allowed them to be. How did we allow them to be?

Osman and arteta never got stuck in. Fellaini gave the ball away too often. Yakubu had nothing but red shirts around him when he got the ball. We sat too deep. We gifted arsenal that game, they were there for the taking.

am off out to get bladdered!

I agree he should've made some changes earlier. But our bench aint filled with players that can change games.

Yeah putting Saha on gives you something upfront, but the midfield couldnt keep the ball in the second half and their paced out did us all over the park.

As usual the heads went down, the hoof came out. Fellaini took a knock and couldnt get up and down. We dropped deep on the left because of Walcott so Pienaar couldnt get forward. Arteta didnt get forward on the right.

And also the game changed big time. When Hibbert got that yellow he was on thin ice and had to come off, Fellaini was injured and had to come off. Rodwell was looking lost as the game went on so the midfield was low on bodies. All you had was Neville but he had to come on at RB. Castillo would've been nice on the bench, I'm sure he would've came on if he was fit.

Some of you are just laughable. Kenada hit it spot on. Do you really think that bringing on Vaughan or Saha any earlier for the Yak would have made that much difference? Really?

We played well in the 1st half, Arsenal didn't.

We played ok in the 2nd half, Arsenal were typical Arsenal.

We all know what happens when Arsenal play like they're capable of. There's not a club in the world that can stick with them. We could have had Manchester United's or Chelsea's bench waiting to come in and it wouldn't have helped.

Sure Arsenal's form hasn't been the best but naturally, against Everton, they broke out of their slump today. Something I've been waiting for us to do as well.

But for those of you who think that we lost this match because of tactical changes or the lack thereof really need to come back down to planet Earth. You could put down several reasons we lost the match today.

Tactics isn't one of them.

Yes I do, they would've given us another option. More pace and fresh legs. This is Saha and Vaughan where talking about, two very good forward players who have already proven they can change games.

I'm not saying they would've won us the game but we needed something different, we needed someone to give us a pacy outlet something the Yak wasn't doing.

As a manager you take chances and see what comes off, you don't just wait until the opposition score and then change it. It's about reacting to a situation and atleast trying to change the game in our favour.

If he'd have had Valente and Baxter on the bench then fair enough, I would've accepted that he didn't have the options. But he had two very good strikers on the bench and there was no excuses for not changing the game.

Any game can be changed, it doesn't matter how bad you are playing and how good the opposition are playing.

I thought that we played REALLY well first half. Vintage Everton. Well done lads.

Second half, we just "tried to cope" with an amazing side capable of cutting ANYONE open.

Overall, I thought we did really well today. everyone worked hard, everyone closed down, even Arteta got a few decent dead balls in (although he was fairly anonymous otherwise).

Our main problem was that we scored too early, and gave Arsenal plenty of time to gather their thoughts and come back at us.

I'm the happiest I've ever been after a 3-1 defeat. That says more about how we have played up until today though, rather than anything else.

We're moving in the right direction lads, keep the faith!!

I havent read all 338 posts, but I was thinking the Yak needed to get changed earlier.

I was thinking maybe Yak and Rodwell for Vaughn and Anichebe.

Lasts nights game looked Arsenal had several more players on the pitch. I struggle to comprehend

a) why they can stroke the ball around in OUR half, until the penalty area.

b) why we cant EVEN get out of our own half without being pressured.

I mean, we all have the same amount of players? Why do resort to utter [Poor language removed], have three of there's trying to take the ball off one of ours?

WHY? WHY? WHY?

The Premier League has become boring.

I'd like to point out, just so that it's down on paper, that Phil Neville looked very good on the bench today. Then it struck me that maybe, just maybe, the first "moving with the times" shake-em-up in Moyes's new era might be to not have Captain Fantastic in the starting line up every game. Or was he really just injured? The saga continues...

He'll be straight back in against Man utd.:(

Despite Hibbert and Rodwell having very good games, that's just the way it is at Everton. Neville is the Golden boy, Moyes's boy wonder.

You may be right but not today.

Fresh legs, fresh lungs, fresh anything wouldn't have made a difference against Arsenal's quality in the 2nd half.

I won't argue that Moyes sometimes waits too long and is more reactionary than anticipatory when it comes to changes but today, it wouldn't have mattered who came in and when.

I mean that I'd like to think that a Vaughan for Saha change after the first Arsenal goal might have relieved the pressure but I'm not convinced. Arsenal were just that good in the 2nd half.

I will say that we did play very well in the first half today though.

[Poor language removed] that, well done my [Poor language removed] arse, its like going to an Oasis concert and listening to "dont look back in .............." and then praising them for not finishing off the line, bullshit!

since i left me last post and went out and got smashed  nothing new has been said. ok we were good in the 1st half, so [Poor language removed] what, we didnt turn up in the 2nd half so whatever happened in the pervious 45 is of no matter at all.

Why are the RS where they are in the league? Because they score goals in the last 10 minutes of every game, why do they do this? because they play for the full 90.

Everton at the moment, dont have the composure, ideas or tactics to see out a 90 minute game.

Everton have a very good team, if you take each indivdual player and scrutinise his role and input, you would agree that on it's day, it's a team worthy of great things.

But I've come to this conclusion

The top 4 finish in the top four every season...Why?

because every player plays for 90 minutes week in week out.

Why don't we finish there every year? Not because we aren't good enough, because we don't know how to!

(drunken rant over!!!)

It was so obvious. I watched it in a pub and everyone was saying it...

We had absolutely no outlet, we needed Vaughan or Saha on for Yakubu earlier.
