Kone 5 million
Gayle 6 million
Shelvey 6 million

Ha ha ha ha...... Not much hate for Martinez now is there ?

I don't understand all this "he's not very good". "Unambitious signing" comments that I keep reading. His career stats are 113 goals in 323 games, that's a goal every 2.85 games. That would more than likely be higher aswell if it wasn't for his spell at Sevilla, which between Fabiano and Kanoute playing so well and Kone picking up a cruciate injury on international duty, more than likely would have meant more playing time and more goals.

Realistically 5 million on a player that averages 10 - 15 a season is pretty good business if you ask me, especially as he knows the league etc. yes we could spunk 10 mil plus on a Bony etc, but there have been numerous occasions when players have come from the Dutch leagues etc as top scorer and have fallen in a massive heap.

Martinez has managed him, he knows his temperament and what he can bring to the team and our new style and for that reason and the above points I m very happy with this signing, I really think he will do very well for us.

2 seasons time

Howard
Hibbert
Distin
Jagielka
Baines
Heitinga
Osman
Pienaar
Jelavic
Kone

All over 30 years old so spending 5mil doesnt really make sense when they will all need to be replaced / phased out.

You'd think that'd be blindingly obvious wouldn't you?

£5m spent - two players in, strengtheneing two areas of the team.

Seems like very tidy business to me.
It's great having you on my side for once.
Also if we do manage to jettison Heitinga for say 3m, we've replaced a lazy defender and gotten a new striker for all of 2m-ish.

Youd swear peoples legs fall of when they reach 30. You could look at it another way maybe he wants to bring in some expierence because he plans to give the younger players more of a run - hasnt he already said thats what hes going to do.

we need to judge RM on sept 3rd when the window is closed.

Who he fights to keep, who he lets go, who he signs and how he balances the books.

pissing and moaning about £5m for Kone right now is pointless to me.

In my opinion, he isn't the player that we need to get us in European football next season.

was marcus bent? fact is, we still aint officially signed him and he hasnt even kicked a ball for us yet the forum is suicidal

yes. and more encouraging for any youngster to be covering for a team in their late prime than to be thinking what is the point cos they wont shift someone for five years. seems good balance to me

Yes it does; only 7 of them are first team regulars an in all honesty GoalKeepers don't really count due to them not hitting their peak til the 30's.

So you have 6 players and assuming that they will all play under RM. Even if they did, and coupled with some youngsters, thats the type of blend you need; experience and enthusiasm

Martinez on Everton TV

The Toffees boss understands the media attention but has reminded Evertonians he will only sign players he thinks will add to the talent and personality within the dressing room.

“You can expect those sorts of names,” Martinez told evertontv. “They are players that I know really, really well. I worked with them really closely and they are players that are used to the Premier League and the British game.

“So you will always get those sorts of situations but at the moment we are still looking to try and bring the right characters to the football Club.

“We need to remember that we have a very strong team at the Club, but in the same way we don’t want to close the window without feeling stronger than we were when the window opened.

“So I’m sure that we will have many other names mentioned around and hopefully we are going to get the right characters to represent our football Club.”

Martinez added: "I think we need to bring in three or four new faces - one per unit, and make sure we get an extra option or dimension into the squad. The most important aspect is to try to keep the squad together and get every player ready."

The man for me hasnt said a word i disagree with. Love him already honestly.

That 'one per unit' part is interesting to me.

Does that mean a keeper, defender, middleman and a forward?

Be happy with that. As long as the midfielder is totally boss.
