Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

I think people just see it as an uninspiring signing. You wouldn't see any of our rivals competing with us for this signature because they've got their eyes on better players.

As I've said before, if this is part of a wider recruitment drive and others are coming in then fair enough, but if it come September 1st we're left with a forward line of Jelavic, Anichebe and Kone then I'll be left feeling very underwhelmed. Maybe it'll be because that's the best we can afford, which is fair enough, I just won't expect to replicate our top 6 finish of this year.

The teams above us have more money and european Football to attract a better class of player

Just look at Moyes signings up front, Who above us would have battled it out with us for Beckford,Jelavic,Johnstone,Beattie or Yak

Theres some on here knocking Martinez for going back to his old club for a player he likes, I dont see the problem,He knows the lad and how he works, what hes like in training etc plus he knows the league

I stand by my comment that if he had signed some lad we had never heard of from La Liga most would be bouncing watching clips on you tube and convincing everyone hes signed the next Messi

could you name at least 8 then please?

thanks

i will name one. Christian Chucho Benitez formerly of Birmingham. In his last 3 seasons scored 20 in 2011, 22 in 2012 and 30 goals last season. All in the Mexican league but that is an impressive goalscoring ratio. I believe he will cost around 6-8 million from Club America. He is still just 27 and only turned 27 in May. I think he offers much better long term value for money than Kone. I admit his season at Birmingham wasnt the best goalwise but you could tell he had ability and I think he would be a much more astute signing than Kone. Benitez also has a very good goalscoring record at national level.

some very selective memories going on at the moment. Moyes never spent money on average players???? I seem to remember a demand from most fans for decent strength in depth. How was this going to happen without signings like this one? Some fans were crying out for money to be spent but now are demanding we shouldn't be spending any money on a striker, first choice or not. Kone is not being bought, if he is, for the long term future, we may have young strikers in the ranks that are good enough and effect how we handle the market in terms of young players coming in. He would need to have a good look at the squad below the first team before bringing younger players in, and if they are for the future then that makes sense. Kone can in the meantime provide a proven option up front. a few million for an established international for probably the best team in Africa is not overpriced. If we spent massive amounts then the moans would have started about who was leaving. If he isn't first choice Kone can provide cover up front or wide mid. decent signing, not our last, but depth and proven quality has been provided for positions in need of that. and for those of you who love that kind of thing, if he proves disastrous then he has enough of a proven record that we will sell him for decent money
the team have two strikers already if you are looking for depth. the team needs quality strikers, not more average aging strikers.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Can anyone name a better striker that could realistically be signed for 5 million? I can only think of Fred.

NO LAR DERS ABAR 300 STRIKERS IN DAT LA LIGA HE CUD GET FOR £30 HE JUST A LAZY **** AND DAT MOYES WOUD HAVE SIGNED DAT MESSY BY NOW

Couple of Wigan fans think he's decent but not what they thought we'd be aiming for. That he's lazy and lacks a first touch.

So... Anichebe from the future?

Think he'll even go for more than 5 million after his confederations cup performances (though I'm not convinced he's worth that). He would be a good shout though, will be looking to get plenty of playing time in a top league so he can stay in contention for 2014
