Kone Signs on 3 Year Deal

Just throwing it out there for arguments sake....but what if Jelavic returns to the form of his first season, and Kone (in a better team with more service) goes on to score 15-20 goals? We still looking at an aver-garbage strikeforce?

If Anichebe became Drogba then pigs could fly as well.

I´m firmly in the "this is a good transfer" camp.

- A solid pro who is proven in the premiership and who managed to score 10+ goals in a team that got relegated and who is;

- a player that the manager knows and trusts, which means he´ll have the right attitude and slot in nicely with the rest of the squad.

- The fact that he´s 29 doesn´t bother me in the slightest. Potentially he could score us 15 goals next season. That alone would probably be worth 5 mil.

We could do a lot worse.

Pretty sure we could have done better, but he'll do a job and could be great. If he's going to help us finish any higher than we did last year, we'll need goals though. Our defence was solid last year. Our problem was we didn't score enough and kill your Norwich, Readings and Newcastle's off. You don't spend £5m on our budget for the odd goal here and there.

I guess the "few quid" Bill talked about has gone on Kone and Alcaraz. As long as Heitinga does one, that's decent enough business. If we have more and spend it on McGeady though... well, that doesn't bare thinking about.

I was referring to league goals. Plenty have equalled the tally of 11, it isn't an amazing strike rate. I'm going to remain skeptical about this transfer until I see him next season, I just don't agree with it myself.

Fair enough, but he still scored more in one season than 90% of Everton centre forwards have over the past 2 decades, throw in 2 goals in an F.A Cup run that ultimately led to winning the thing and he's done more than enough to warrant any attention he's getting.

For 5 million sheets this'll work.

See what youre saying but dont think Jelavic returning to form and Kone scoring 4 more goals than he did than last year is that unrealistic really?

Anichebe - no idea why hes still at the club.

Jelavic -- Nosedived /kamikazed

Kone - 5mil who over the season will be 30.

That's what i see...

One thing we needed last year in my view was a striker who had enough pace to make other teams concerned about being caught on the break. We didn't have it. Kone is quick enough and will put himself about. This is not a big signing but it brings in a type of player we lack and in my view need. His age counts against him but if has looked after himself like distan, he will still have a few good years in him.

once again, can someone find a better striker than kone for 5 mill please? doubt it...

I'd say Odemwingie is about on par and he cost WBA 500k.

Michu i would say is better and he cost around £2m

Slightly more than £5m could get you a Hernandez.

it's all about using your scouting network though.

Good post, some common sense.
