Kone has had more than one season; in fact, apart from Seville, he his strike rate is very good. His age is irrelevant, its what he can offer to the team that matters.

You do know that Martinez has played both Di Santo and Rodellga out on the left during his time at Wigan.

Alcaraz I'm happy with. A free signing, decent centre half, should do right by us for 3-4 seasons. If we sell Heitinga then it's probably decent business.

An outlay of £5-6.5m on Kone is a different prospect... He's going to have to return a fair number of goals to warrant that.

Incredible isn't it? Apparently, though, Martinez is making a big balls up with this signing (which amounts to about ten bob in this day and age) and should be bringing in Cavani.

You cannot ignore that fact. Jelavic's strike rate has been very good and had a cracking first 16 games or so. The next season he struggled. Plus, 11 goals isn't that special. If he had scored 15 or so, I would have a different opinion.

Also, yes, it is partially the reason Wigan have been so dire and deservedly relegated last season.

There was a couple of factors which you fail to acknowledge.

1 - He had a serious injury in 08 i think
2 - A lot of them appearances were off the subs bench; Fabiano and Kanoute were leading the line and had a very good partnership.

His first season was a bust, then he had about 18 games in 2 years after that. Bar Seville, he has 1 in 2.5 strike rate, not bad

It's strange that such a well researched gent like Timak didn't know that. Oops.

That's not true though. In the league, Felli scored the same amount last season and Cahill had equalled it one season, Duncan Ferguson score the same amount in the late 90's, Andy Johnson also equalled that tally. There has probably been more too.
