I think a lot of that can be down to a drop in confidence.

When you are on a high, you shrug off those things and get on with it.

There is no doubting IMO he was a bit short on confidence last season, it affected his otherwise clinical finishing.

Wasn't he fishing for a pay rise? According to those in the know anyway?

Playing like a [Poor language removed] for 6 months certainly won't get you one, Niki.

i honestly don't see many other options we could pick up for around the 5m mark that are proven goalscorers in this league and they suit the style of play Martinez wants. Him and Jela could tear defences apart for all we know, or they could be dire. Bottom line is that strengthening the squad is never a bad thing and we've always scored goals from all positions not just the front pairing. If he returns 13 next season with jela and vic aiming for double figures along with goals from elsewhere mirralas et al, then we will finish top half pushing europa league positions. Which for a first season under a new manager and a completely new playing style, we can't sniff at that.

It has nothing to do with form and everything to do with his piss poor attitude, the fact he's always offside and the fact he goes down like a sack of excrement when faced with anything more powerful than a light breeze

You can't criticise his effort. If anything he was trying too hard. The goals were meaning too much to him.

The ITKs you refer to are frauds.

No attitude problem at all with Jelavic; nobody doubted his effort on the pitch in the majority of games.

Moyes has insisted he wants the former Rangers man to remain at Goodison, and believes his good attitude will help him to recover from his current slump in form.

He said: “It’s been a difficult season - maybe a bit of second season syndrome if you want to call it that. He’s found it a little harder to get the goals and the opportunities.

“We’ve tried everything. We kept trying to play him to give him the chance to score but in the end we had to take him out. As it is Victor has come to light in the last month or so which has given us a wee bit of something else.

“I think Nikica’s confidence has taken a bit of a knock. Last week he had a chance with a header when he should have maybe gone to try and score. If you’ve not scored and not played as well that’s natural.

He’s a really good lad and he’s the first one to accept he’s not doing well enough. When you work with boys like that it makes it an awful lot easier because they know they’ve got to get better.

His effort has never been in question and we’d want him here next season.”

Thing is, Jelavic missed numerous chances last season that he would have slotted the one before.

Why's that?

His lack of confidence grew when Moyes stifled his natural game, as our former manager did with Johnson, Beattie, even Beckford and Yakubu. Moyes wanted them all to be like Marcus Bent, who was Moyes ideal type..running channels all day long and being the 'out' ball for the defence. Tubeys post above is correct. Moyes was a defender, and his mindset is all about defence.Thats why we 'atack' down the wings and rarely play through the middle. Moyes was fortunate to have Baines...in fact probably signed him to attack down the flank.Similarly, Mirallas would be hot playing behind the striker(Bily would have been very satisfactory playing in that position as well) but Mirallas was played out wide, his tendency being to cut in a lot, and also to be subbed!
Moyes does not know how to coach strikers, only how to defend against them. I'm only concerned about Everton, but Moyes at United, in my opinion, is a disaster waiting to happen.

I don't mind Kone, but I would rather we spend a few extra million and sign Moses from Chelsea.

433 formation with Mirallas and Moses either side of Jelavic.

Why's that?

All Moyes fault apparently.

He must have ignored the man & been beaten up by him after every game in his first 6 months at the club, for seemingly ignoring his instructions....

The reality is that Jelavic is an instinctive 1 touch finisher, who for whatever reason, couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo last season. In my opinion, his fall off in form was down to confidence, the longer his baron patch went on the worse it got. When he was in full flow he wasn't thinking about it, last season he was & the results were polar opposites. He showed what he was capable of in his first 6 months, he's not lost that ability, he just needs to re-find his confidence.

What part of not standing on your feet and fighting for every chance shows excellent effort?

Vic was actually putting effort in. Defenders would crack him and he'd keep going till he had to go down

Jelavic did no such thing. One touch and his was over

Terrible attitude

Sorry, I usually agree with you and think you're a solid member of the forum - but on this one you are utterly wrong. He put massive shifts in last year.

Think this might be your version of irrationality, like Neiler with Tim Howard ^^

Hang on...would we have been saying that at the beginning of last season? NO! Cos Jela was banging goals for fun with something like 7 goals in 7 touches or soemthing daft.

Moyes DESTROYS forwards! FACT! Ask Andy Johnson, Yak, Beattie and now Jelavic. Too much emphasis on running fecking channels and **** and not on scoring goals.

Maybe with RM Jela finds his boots and scores 20?

I just dont get why people are so quick to be negative and think the worst before we actually know what the **** is actually happening!

Give it a chance FFS and if we are **** and cant score then ill join you in the pissing and moaning competition, till then though, whats wrong with a bit of optimism?

It doesn't matter what I thought last season as that has now gone. Fact is Jelavic was found out, he's as bad a diver as Suarez as well, Anichibe is a waste of space and Kone is average at best.
That strike force could not give anyone optimism but if you're happy with it good for you.

Didnt say i was happy with it, id rather be going for rooney or Higuain but that aint happening so for now ill just be a realist.

But ill be a realist that until proven to be ****, will give players and the manager the benefit of all doubt if thats ok with every other moaning **** on here.
