Royal Blue Jersey
Player Valuation: £35m
Lots of positive talk, as we've seen in the week he's been here too. The thing that worries me is that he's put a lot of faith and belief into some absolute cud players there. Hindsight allows us to evaluate them and they haven't done well.
He was talking about establishing Wigan in the top eight but it didn't exactly work out that way.
Obviously that's being critical so hopefully with better players and three more years experience as a manager he will have picked up a trick or two. Spotting, purchasing then developing a good player will be crucial to how he succeeds here.
Well the constraints that he had to work under, he has no choice but to put faith in less than accomplished players. He had no problem calling out big time charlies for their **** - Olivier Kapo, Jason Koumas and others - and he is highly critical of Steve Bruce's 'big name, big wages, 30+' type signings. He seems to have the same eye for a good player that Moyes did, and mentions the frustration of missing out on them (De Gea for one). He doesn't come across as a soft touch to me, anything but - he goes on about being happy that Caldwell was shouting and moaning at people because it was the level of passion he wanted.
And Goat you'd never get Vitor coming out with something this informative in Portuguese never mind English. That ship has sailed - all the way up the Persian Gulf. He's in some backwater Arab country working for oil money. [Poor language removed] him.
