Will Everton break their transfer record this Summer?

It is mate I agree. They've all got big jugs too which is a prerequisite for anything I watch. Dropped a bolllock sky+ the sumo wrestling but you can't win them all.

Anyhoo, what's with this weird typing lark?

Dun kun it could be me inner sea-pie express'n itself which ay tinnie not control.

No, I think Martinez will do the smart and right thing and spend money on getting the squad stronger and a little bigger than spunking it all on one player.

I don't agree that buying an increased amount of inferior players is a smart thing to do.

One Coutinho improves the squad far more than 4 McGeady's ever would.

I think he has a good eye for a player, and i am sure he will do what's right for us.

if we could get £20m to spread amongst three really good players who can play striker, keeper and attacking midfield then that would be great. Depends on the kitty but i very much doubt it will be anything over £20m, if it's even that close. therefore, it wouldn't be great to spend it all on 1 player when we need 3/4 or more.

buy some great bargains like mirallas, qualify for CL, then have a look at buying 1 real class player who is WORTH 18 or so million

Well said mate, think we need ONE big player to push us on,not 3-4 average players.

Very interesting point you raise mate. It's weird, as it almost makes it sound as if we've been lavished when we all know the truth is far from it. My guess is when you spent huge amounts on players its very hard to top it even with inflation, whereas we are kind of incrementally increasing by small amounts. I can't see the likes of these amounts (off the top of my head, don't know if they're accurate/up to date) being beaten;
Villa £24 million Bent
Chelsea £50 million Torres
United £34 million Berbatov
Spurs £22 million Modric (they'll beat that soon)

Arsenal will surely break theirs soon.

Honestly, I can't see us spending over £15 million in the foreseeable future. Not before (big) sales.

Gareth Bale's signing bonus?

And what happens if that ONE big player gets injured and we have no one decent to come in and replace him? I don't think people realise how small our squad actually is.

Agree with this.

You don't buy inferior players to bulk a squad up. You replace your weakest first 11 player then the next weakest etc and the replaced becomes a good quality squad player.

If we signed replacements for say Distin Osman jelavic Anichebe you then have better squad options with these guys filling the bench instead of Heitinga Neville hitz vellios

I don't think people realise how small our squad actually is.[/ We have enough average/good players. We can stand still or get a player who could get us 15-20 goals a season. They don't come cheap!!

We had one of the smallest squads in the premier league LAST season, since then we have lost 3 more players. We needed more players before we lost those 3, and one of those covered about 4 positions for us too. I'd love for us to go out and get a top player, but i think we need to adress the depth of the squad more importantly.

coutinho ... 8m wasn't it... think generally people are talking about couple signings like that, maybe needs to be a mill or two below but proves that we don't have to break the record to get exactly what we need

You are right, he only cost 8million, I thought they spent double that on him tbh, and I'd have said that he was well worth that figure.

Bargains can be had, but sometimes you have to pay to ensure quality. Our investment in Fellaini proves this.
