It's what the board regard as success that drives the decision. Moyes was good enough because he brought stability and relative success.

The best candidates to fulfill that remit are Pereira and Laudrup.

By seemingly wanting Pereira The Board have set the bar at a good height. Imagine trying to get him after a couple of 12th places and 2 or 3 good players down from now... We wouldn't get a (known) good 'un nor the right players.

Not sure about VP's role identifying transfer targets but let's see. I also get the impression Rodrigues let him down in 2 CL games by saying he was fit.. (player admitted this later but fans are fickle - just like we got angry with Moyes for bringing Hibbert on v Spurs a few years ago - and who forgets Wigan in March?)

The Chairman pretty much politicised all this by being coy over his contract. Pereira would be better off leaving with his stock high.

Surely you'd let them eat the crisps inside as well?!

and to be fair, I would say the Executioner's Bong summed up our general approach to the game. But if we're 1-nil up we almost always play the way the mirror described. I think balance between the two is smart, just wish Moyes had gone with high line approach a bit more often
Just watch him be more attacking now with Man u

To be fair, the lad who said it knows his stuff so...

Does he though?

Does the story make ANY sense though?! If we were going to appoint internally, WHY would it be Weir? And if it WAS Weir, AS IF he'd turn it down, along with the opportunity of probably quadrupling his wages??

Moyes has been here 11 years and was offered a job that has come up once in 26 years, and Man United could have probably had ANY manager they wanted so I don't really think it is fair to say this could have been anticipated. I believe if the Man United job had gone to someone else that Moyes would still be here.

Moyes was refusing to renew a contract which had six weeks to run when United hired him. It was pretty obvious that he was only going to stay at Everton if he had absolutely no other place to go.

The board should have started making plans months ago.

How many of us were horrified when we seen Neville in the line-up, its was a bad mistake from Moyes.

united said they were signing moyes before we said he was leaving

Yes but we're Everton; we're far too nice for things like that.

We'd probably wait until the day before his contract ends with them before passing Pereira a pen to put his signature on our contract, only to see him jetted off in a private flight to Stoke's training ground and sign for them.

Do the board at united think along the same lines then ?

No ! One of the worlds biggest and most successful clubs hold Moyes in such high esteem, they make him their manager.

Looks like Stoke are in talks with Mark Hughes

The main thing I'm looking forward to is a manager who will go for the jugular with the RS. They've had appalling teams at times over recent years, and we've just rolled over for them. I'd love for us to stuff them home and away, and finish above them once again! The utter bells will go into meltdown, they're pretty much nothing without their CL cash influx.

With a few astute signings, sure we'll need some luck obviously, if we can get into fourth next season we'd have a big opportunity to push us on. I know it's a big ask, yes I'm deluded, but I think there are a couple of managers out there who could get us over the finish line. Pereira, Girard, Bielsa, any of those three could do it I reckon.

To be honest our derby record is dreadful for over 20 years now. Out of those names I would love Bielsa but come on the board wont go for him
