Sorry to hear your news Sharpy, same thing happened to my Dad back in 1979, I'll never forget him coming home crying after being given immediate notice after 28 years at Dunlops in Speke.
The good news is that he got his act together in times much worse than now and started a small business which saw him through to retirement.
If you're worried about mortgage payments (don't know, but just guessing) first call must be to the bank or BS - even in these difficult times they'll be sympathetic as long as you tell them what's happening. That will buy you 3 - 6 months time at least.

Mortage company will probably defer payments as well if you get onto them sharpy. Just let them know your situation and most companies will do there best to help
That really is excellent advice. If you have debt talk to those you owe to and they won't come after you. Hide and you are truly screwed. I know from personal experience.
Good luck, you'll be alright in a while, keep your head up and you'll sort yourself out, life is like that.
Get a good CV put together and don't be afraid to move away from home to work. There is a whole world out there.
