Moyes has failed the test

True. I'm sure their fans are discussing it and the reason why as we type. Some people probably feel 6th was the best we could/should do will probably follow my post and we'll debate it.

6th probably is the best we could do isn't it? I mean being 100% honest and totally realistic we are the 6th best team in the league.

United and City are obviously better.
Chelsea have a squad I might build on FIFA
Spurs have Bale who has won points on his own several times (i'd put us above Spurs without Bale I think)
And Arsenal are Arsenal. Always seem to have a hic up, but have a quality squad we could only curretly dream of.

None of that explains why we never beat them at their gaffs, but does explain why will finish 6th (if we finish 7th now i'm kicking off!)

If we get a "Benteke" as in a cheapish striker we will get the top four, we have done well against all the top teams, we just need to convert our draws into wins

Would Moyes have "failed the test" if the league had gone exactly the same except 6th would have gotten us into Europe?

I'm as annoyed as anyone that we haven't beaten the Sky 4 away from home even though we could have but Moyes has every right to play conservative. If you go to Old Trafford/ the Emirates and try to play them at their own footballing/passing game, they would tear you apart. Looking at our early season form, we were playing attacking football and scoring goals, but we were looking very shakey defensively and we were almost expecting to concede at least 1 goal every game.

I think one of our main problems this season has been finding the right balance between attack and defense.

...I absolutely disagree with the sentiment that Moyes has failed the test. If anything the club failed by not providing the necessary momentum when we were in a brilliant position at the January transfer milestone. The manager has got us here despite the boards failings.

the board failed moyes in january.Needed a couple of signings of which they knew.Last two days of a transfer window is know good.Thats the failure not moyes.squad size needs sorting.

Can't argue with these really.

Although it's not just this season, more every season!

I think we could have done better Ijjy.

Howard was stinking early season. Mucha proved he was better than what we were getting off Howard.

Neville has still played a lot in midfield.

Heitinga has been picked repeatedly despite refusing to head the ball for 6 months.

Jelavic has stunk the place out all year without Vellios getting a look in.

Osman has had his usual anonymous periods but stayed in the side.

Pienaar has been awful all season but played every week.

Naismith isn't even a footballer but has played well more than Oviedo, Barkley and the likes.

These are all decisions of Moyes that have cost us cumulative points through the season.

I don't think it's unreasonable to point them out as they seem fairly obvious to me.

I don't disagree with any of those things mate.

But every other team has had issues too. Even Man United.

We are the 6th best team in the league. I can't really see where the argument with that is.

Precisely.

People act as if all the other teams don't also lose points stupidly or play players that they shouldn't.

If every team played to their absolute maximum potential we'd probably still be 6th, we certainly wouldn't be any higher.

My argument is we may have done better and I think that the things above are mistakes Moyes made and they cost us. I'm not slating him or calling him names just that I don't see 6th for this group of players being anything other than a bit less than what they should achieve.

So mistakes dont matter??? How many do you forgive then?

Where do you draw the line?

I get ya mate, and it's just a debate.

It's all what ifs though isn't it?

What if Torres had started scoring again for Chelsea?
What if RVP had flopped at United?
What if Spurs had 11 Bales?
Would Man City have been better off without Ballotelli at the start of the season?

I think (i've forgotton really), my point is that yeah we've had all those things that you have listed up there happen to us this season, but other teams have had stuff too.

That's the point though. We're aiming to make less mistakes than the sides around us who I believe we are round about equal to.

I'm not sure we did.
