What happened in Madrid?

5-1 to Real at half time. The manager chose a mix of subs and first team players. Only Izmailov and Pereirinha salvage themselves from that ship.

--------------R Patricio
Pedro Silva; Caneira; Polga; Ronny
---------------Veloso
--Pereirinha Rochemback Izmailov
------------Postiga Tiui

For the second half

--------Tiago
Abel Tonel Polga Caneira
--------Veloso
Moutinho------- Izmailov
--------Romagnoli
------Postiga Djalo

Full time result 5-3

So the best players show that they can play seriously at the highest level but some of the usually subs were simply [Poor language removed]...the purest [Poor language removed] I've ever seen, especially Pedro Silva, Ronny and Tiui...well these 3 they didn't just look like [Poor language removed] they ARE [Poor language removed]....

So we can't lose the players who always play in their limits, always at high rotation and Moutinho is one of them.

We say that we won second half 2-0 after we put in our best performers.

Of course the first 3 shots by Real were 3 goals, then a phantom penalty and an own goal made the 5 goals. We had a goal disallowed to Izmailov who scored our only goal in the first half (he was the only player who made something worthwhile in the first half).

Even Schuster said that all the balls went in before half time and that maybe portuguese players only thought the game would start an hour late.

But second half we kind of restored some honour.

So even if we match the 25 million Euros you don't think he'll come?

We'll give you Van der Meyde, he's versatile and can rotate between left, right and behind the strikers. Dutch international, Champions League experience and a product of the Ajax acadamy.(y)

We have plenty of pubs down here, mate. Btw have you enjoyed the nightlife in Lisbon?

The 25M euros...do you think Everton will go that far? I know that the chairman made a promise to the player and I'm sure his word will be good...

I think they might have too, Kenwright will be ripped apart at the EGM if we haven't spent any money. The fans won't be happy at all, he has to pull something out the hat.

The thing is these rumours of Moutinho to Everton have not gone away, both the English and the Portuguese press have continually said we are in talks, we are upping our bid etc.

Maybe it will happen, you just never know.

The Defense We Built The Success Last Season On Was

Neville - Jags - Yobo - Lescott

Thats How It Should Be

Dont Fix It If Its Not Broke
Hrd to disagree with you tbh

The defence had a shocker against pompey and that as Ghost rightly pointed out has been our strengh over the last few years.

This balls up of a summer has led to this, becuase it does look like DM taken his eye off the lads in training trying to sign players, when as we all know he and the board had 10 weeks of doing bugger all to sort that out.

Defending is the job of the whole team and I suspect the upheaval in midfield is a big part of the problem, as we're essentially down three players in that area from last season. It'd be a real shame if Lescott displaced Baines at left back. The two Russian full-backs are a great example of how potent an attacking threat the position can be. All we need is the other players to fill in when required. That's the whole point of the defensive midfielder. Not sure either Jags or Rodwell is up to that job at the moment.

TBH i would drop Lescott an keep baines in. He's played well so far this season. Were's Lescott has stunk the place out. No body should have an automatic place in the team. If your not playeing well, your out. Simple.

what was ring wit last years defence y feel the need to put lesscott centre back,
lesscoot(lb)yobo jags (cb) abd hibbert or neville (rb) we never lost many games wit that y fix it if its not broke moyes!

That's partially the problem. He can't afford to drop anyone because the squad is so bare!

Can't see why he didn't have Lescott LB, Baines LM and Jags CB, leaving Osman to play in the middle, instead of a "defender and a kid" in central midfield (n)

Just one more to bump.

Form and confidence go hand in hand.

Funny how poor we started and how well we're doing now. And that's with a bunch of injuries.

The players are playing like they believe they should win every match. A far cry from how we started the season. The players were on terrible form and the supporters were giving up on the season early.

Glad we've turned it around.
