Why do Evertonians expect success?

I can't believe anybody can argue 7th is the 'bare minimum' our team should get with the squad we have. We have had to use Phil Neville in midfield and Steven Naismith on the right wing for large parts of this season, and a centre half at right back.

And who built that squad?

With, *cough*, 13.8m.

Which, again, is down to his transfer market nous which, again, I've said repeatedly that I'll never, ever slate.

But that doesn't make him a great manager; that makes him a great Director of Football.

If we finish top six, we've had a "good" season, but that doesn't excuse yet another capitulation in the domestic cups. We've just been bummed at home against Wigan within sight of Wembley, and before that we went out to a Championship club in the League Cup. That's failure. There's no other way to describe it, and neither of those games can be excused by lack of investment because on both occasions we were playing inferior teams on paper.

I agree with this- in those particular games I completely agree.

Losing in the final to Chelsea however I dont agree-they were better than us and are on a different level to us in terms of their squad size.

Last season in the semi I'd also say was a missed opportunity to a poor Liverpool team

Maybe.

But it depends on what you think Everton needs.

Do we need a Martinez, wins important games, but fails 90% of others.
Or Moyes, loses important games and wins 90% of others.

Kept us at that level when other teams have spent masses of money.

Look you might all live in this fantasy world where hard work and hope win you leagues, cups and other honours but money talks. We cant buy a £16m midfielder to sit on the bench or a Veron for £30m that is absolute pants we have to work with what we have and uncover gems that will hold their value that can be used in the future to help replenish the squad.

Moyes does that better than anyone else.

We lose soem big players this summer and Moyes and the manager that comes in makes a couple of duff signings we will really struggle next year. Im so sure of it.

If we keep moyes we will probably keep finishing around 7th which as people say is a reasonable position for our spend. But if he does re sign the only Everton I will watch is the motd highlights. I will not be renewing and sitting through his dross football anymore.

You can vault me again if you like - I've said before that I won't criticise Moyes for losing a final, but I will criticise him for not even getting to a final in the first place. A final is a one off game and a win or a loss doesn't actually matter as at least he's had the bottle and consistency to get there in the first place.

But the problem is that he's achieved it once in 20 attempts, which is maddeningly poor given the amount of times the door has been wide open like it has this year and last year.

So have we been dross all season?! On your Match of the Day highlights did they show earlier games in the season when we played some of the best stuff in the league?! No? Think you need to not renew your TV licence rather than season ticket pal

All my mates who support Wigan (all 3 of them that is) can't believe we have fans wanting to get rid of Moyes and bring Martinez in.

It's not that they think he's a bad manager, more a case of how highly they rate Moyes I guess.

Why don't we just confront the elephant in the room (not you Goat).

The sad fact is that we as a club will never see a consistent improvement above what we currently have without more money. No manager will get us the success we crave with £1.5m per year to spend, it's just not going to happen.

We might win a cup, but it's a big risk getting rid of a manager who brought you out of the relegation zone and has kept you out for 10 years just on the off chance.

A mixture of both.

And again, I can be vaulted for that as recently as today - I laughed off Neil Lennon and Duncan Ferguson as managerial candidates because we need a more rounded manager.

It's a very poor scare tactic to suggest Everton definitely cannot do better than David Moyes. There are far superior tacticians about. If we get a good tactician who can do half as well as Moyes in the transfer market then I'll be happy.

Its only Everton fans that think Moyes is a bad Manager.
